I don't see this country healing and coming together

Unless the MSM and others stop playing the ‘both sides’’ argument....there is only one side that has been destructive and has thrived on division for the last 40 years with hate radio, Drudge, Fox News, breibert, etc...

Trump isn’t the same as AOC, The proud boys aren’t the same as BLM, MSNBC isn’t FoxNews, Rachel Maddox isn’t Laura Ingram, Chris Hayes isn’t Tucker, no one on progressive radio is the same as Rush Limbaugh, DU isn’t FoxNation, the rabid democratic voters aren’t like the racist trump voters....bottom line, there isn’t really a both sides argument

of conservatism. What I would like to see is civility. No name calling, no nasty, snarky comments and then an apology, just basic civility with the one goal of helping the American people. I could care less about someone's religion, or their sexual orientation, or their race - just basic human kindness.

It never was. But over time, I think the loudest, ugliest voices will retreat underground to fester, and at least leave some peace in the public space. The Senate, if it remains Republican, will continue to obstruct, but I think to an ever-so slightly lesser extent, perhaps, than we saw under Obama. There are just too many critical things that need to be done for the country, and on the most critical, perhaps there will be some movement.

Just turning down the heat and excising the inflammatory language will help. If we can just get back to that place where we are adversaries, not mortal enemies, it will be an improvement.

Of course, none of this will happen if, in addition to Republican obstructionism, our own party unity falls apart.

There is little to no incentive for greedheads in coming together given how much money these propaganda masters have made:

Rush Limbaugh: At least $500 million
Sean Hannity: $250 million
Glenn Beck: $250 million
Roger Ailes: $200 million (at time of death)
Bill O-Reilly: $85 million (at one point making $37 million in a 12 month period)

America’s glorification of being rich is destroying it.

I don’t feel that America has a future anymore if we continue to have a media that divides us and makes up shit to benefit the rich and Christofascists. I wish I was young and could move to another country but I fear what has happened to us will eventually happen to other countries.

This election has slowed their plans but with the senate in the hands of the evil repukes we are screwed.

I was working with these two young guys last week who were African American neither was scary looking and both attractive. I asked them if they voted. Both in their twenties they said no, both parties are the same and one guy said he did like MF44’s policies. I started to challenge him but thought better of it. I just told him I never experienced so much racism until MF45 was elected. The one who liked his polices relayed a story about taking his wife and young son up to Virginia City Nevada to try out a restaurant and they were harassed and these white MF45 supporters kept showing him their guns. They ate really fast at this restaurant and left. He said he was worried for his family. I was screaming inside.

The powers that be have effectively divided our people in 2 by segregating one group and feeding it bullshit and calling it fact. Until we are able to prove to them that they've been duped by their own, not only is cohesion impossible, it puts us in danger of sliding down the same slope they have, albeit down the other side of the hill.

It is not going away any time soon. Perhaps the best we can hope for is to find some areas of agreement outside the culture wars and racist politics. Some of those areas include

—replacement of aging infrastructure, including safe water pipes
—upgrades to our electricity grids, which are vulnerable to cyber attacks
—wiring of all parts of the country, especially rural areas, for Internet access
—lower drug prices and accessible healthcare (people generally agree on the need but not the process; universal healthcare needs to be part of an economic picture because it facilitates wage growth and GDP when employers must compete on wages rather than healthcare and healthier people do not miss work as often because they get preventive care—I think this is winnable with the right message and approach)
—policies/programs to address the opioid crisis, which is still going on
—investments in alternative energy—not everyone is here yet, but lots of people are and it can pay big dividends
—making higher education more affordable and giving non-college oriented young people technical training for a good job

I’m sure there are more, but if we focus first on the less controversial goals perhaps the culture wars will recede. Reproductive rights and the gains that LGBTQ have gained certainly need to be protected, but we also need to focus on the economic side of life.

By law.

I don't think anti racist white Americans are coming together with the racists this time.

I hate to use the word "woke" - but a lot are woke.

Media is going to have to accept a new model of Patriotic Americans building an inclusive and just society - and wannabe Nazis.

What's the problem with the division?

Sun Nov 15, 2020, 05:05 PM

The extremes, and most especially hard right wing extremes, will have to be goaded to become even more extreme and thus less attractive. For example, tRump's cult must be (rightly) tarred with racist and QAnon labels whenever possible.

The Republican Party must be always referred to as tRump's party. Honest and responsible conservatives must be made to feel they have no home there. They must be forced to create their own party, egged on in the process by Democrats. Such a party would rise to replace the tRump-Republicon (Greed Over People) party and that is the right wing that can come together with the Democratic Party to heal the nation.

While the right wing is undergoing schizms and agonizing convulsions as it reforms, the Democratic Party will have power for a time to make big important fair reforms to the electoral system to kill voter suppression, kill gerrymandering, and kill dirty tricks. Reforms to make polarization much harder.

Make the center much more attractive than the right wing, especially the hard right. Use media and Internet to make a universal sense of revulsion come over people when tRump-Republiconism is mentioned: "eww, shitty racist QAnons".

Make the left of the center very attractive. (The center of the Democratic Party.)

*** Biden can do it. ***

Harris' personal task must be to avoid being "Hillary'ed". Harris has to move to the center, perhaps a little right of center on law and order, to prevent that angle of attack, and a little left of Biden on climate. If Harris makes common cause with Warren and consults meaningfully with AOC and Sanders, then she can pull it off. Especially since it seems Biden is inclined to move on green deals of various kinds.

Some are stuck in anger and denial, most are starting to bargain by donating to scam recount funds. By January, depression will start to set in for the majority.

A few will always be stuck in anger and denial. Most will eventually cope. They will never cope gracefully.
