(5,125 posts)Out in MN the Shakopee Midewaketon Sioux leadership is doing a lot of good work in the community and has a very progressive agenda. Of course a lot of the money comes from Casinos, but that is irony for you.
When you think of the old ways tribes lived, it really was more in tune with nature.

And now were not the only ones who know this, so we have to find out how to definitely protect their votes next time and do our best to protect their health much better too.

All hands were not on deck for other Democrats. We lost House seats. We lost state legislature seats. Basically, we won one big battle but lost a lot of little ones. Part of the reason we are in this position is because the members of the Lincoln Project laid the ground work a couple decades ago for the republican party to fully and openly embrace it's racist, misogynist, homophobic, ill-educated core.
Fuck them and the horses they rode in on.

If you're interested in the Navajo nation and people, you might enjoy the books written by Tony Hillerman. He was a white police officer in Dine country who wrote several detective stories with Navajo police as the main characters, from the Navajo perspective, in their own cultural setting. By the time you read a couple of his books, you will feel like you personally know the land and the people. After he passed away a few years ago, his daughter, Anne, took up where he left off, with the same characters.

So they voted accordingly.

In Arizona here they recieve recognition because it has turned into a swing state.
But they get treated like shit in many of those right wing states. I hope Biden admin can do something to greatly improve their lives.
And recognition is also very important with us just starting to get Native Americans elected to Congress. And Biden certainly should appoint someone to his cabinet.
Governor Steve Bullock was getting a lot of hate for his recognition of native people Ahmed culture. And the white people there elected a racist white thug to be next governor.

(45,380 posts)Detailed plans at the link. The first Americans have been screwed over far too many times.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are committed to upholding the U.S.s trust responsibility to tribal nations, strengthening the Nation-to-Nation relationship between the United States and Indian tribes, and working to empower tribal nations to govern their own communities and make their own decisions. With over 574 federally recognized Native American tribes in the United States, the Biden-Harris plan will:
Strengthen the Nation-to-Nation relationship
Provide reliable, affordable, quality health care and address health disparities
Restore tribal lands, address climate change, and safeguard natural and cultural resources
Ensure Native communities are safer and tackle the crisis of violence against Native women, children, and the elderly
Expand economic opportunity and community development in Native communities
Invest in education and youth engagement
Meet obligations to and commemorate Native veterans
Ensure Native Americans can exercise their right to vote
Trump's plan was to deport them.

The very first electoral map I saw had Joe with a solid 243 votes, and leading in NV, AZ, and WI. Needless to say, it felt delightful to realize that winning those three states alone would give Joe the 27 votes needed to get him to 270.
Shortly thereafter, I came across a story about Joe posting a transition team Web page -- why would he do that while votes were still being counted? Because he knew that more than enough of the remaining votes were blue enough to prevent President Duh Don from overtaking him!

Navajo Nation Enters New Lockdown As Coronavirus Cases Rise
NPR, November 16, 2020
After warning of "uncontrolled spread" of the coronavirus last week, the Navajo Nation entered a lockdown Monday in an effort to stop infections.
Nonessential businesses are closed. Schools have been moved to online learning. Roads within the nation are closed to visitors. The lockdown will last at least three weeks.
