On Sunday, White House COVID-19 advisor Scott Atlas reacted to Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's new COVID-19 measures by tweeting: "The only way this stops is if people rise up."
Atlas was quickly condemned for the remarks on Twitter, especially in light of the fact that the FBI recently foiled a far-right group's plot to kidnap Whitmer and overthrow the state government.
Three hours after his initial tweet, Atlas clarified his comments, saying that he was not urging violence.
