2. I am still FB friends with one of my former students from rural Indiana.

She went on FB last week to declare she was going to Parler, where people support our President. She said they also don't have any ads. I've not been there, but I don't think people are choosing it because it doesn't have ads... They are choosing it because they can be as racist and right wing crazy as they want. They can push conspiracy theories to their hearts content.

That is definitely why they are going to those places. I am all for a free press, but some of these places are dangerous because they are gathering spots for unhinged people who are likely to be violent.

Parler is funded by the Mercer Family. They are billionaires. You are absolutely correct that the people are the product. I was talking with my wife the other day and I said that the Mercers and their ilk, do no care about advertising revenue (of course they won't turn it away). Their investment is in spreading their message to gullible idiots who will then, promote the policies that have given the Mercers millions in subsidy and tax breaks. Policy that has cleared regulations so that they can pass the externalities onto the community rather than pay more to be clean or ethical. The Mercers and Koch's and people like them, have the money to be patient and build those think tanks and networks that pump out lies and let them incubate so that 10 years later, you have millions of people who are no longer living in reality.

Who cares? Fox made their business model to tell lies and promote right wing propaganda. Someone else with even less ethics and a propensity to tell even bigger lies came along so now Fox has to decide whether to completely eliminate ANY facade of trying to be objective, or they will bleed viewers who prefer to live in complete fantasy.

The MAGATs I know are still spewing their toxic shit on Facebook even after announcing their exit.

They go to Parler to get their fill of garbage and bring it back for everyone to see - like a cat bringing home a dead rat. (At least cats think they are bringing you something worthwhile)
