My mother's passing was marred by COVID-19 restrictions...she died without my ever getting to give her a last hug, or kiss her cheek or tell her IN PERSON it was OK to let go, that she had fought as hard and longer than anyone could imagine...ALL GONE BECAUSE OF A RAGING PANDEMIC THAT IS AS REAL AS IT GETS FOR ME - FOREVER NOW...

Fuck them.
I'm glad that they die in anger and hate instead of peace and love. They fucking deserve it.
Their relatives and like-minded fools all deserve worse.

To deny reality, even as reality is ending your existence is a special kind of stupid that actually DOES hurt...now take away these people's ICU beds and throw them in the parking lots to suffocate and die and use the bed space for the innocent victims of this scourge...but waste no resources on the jackass brigade.

I am sickened by the pain this has caused me, my family and the fact that it won't ever end, or go away or be made whole and then to hear of these morons it is just too much. FUCK THEM!

You’d think hospitals and caretakers are out hunting house to house to find them and force them to get treatment!

denying science and god-damn common sense, and slavishly defending the murderously failed leadership of their orange god could power cities. I feel nothing but contempt for them at this point.

My mother died too this summer (not of covid). We were not close but it still is awful not to be able to gather with my family.

My business, which I started in the throes of the last big recession and managed to make it thrive anyway, is now barely surviving. I’m really fucking good at what I do but it just so happens that my clients are all in industries hit hardest by the pandemic.

A big life change I planned for this year is now on indefinite hold because of the pandemic and my loss of income. And when you’re my age, you don’t have a lot of runway left to make big life changes.

So yeah, fuck their “but this can’t be real.” Their cult thinking is destroying this country, and I have zero fucks to spare for them. I’m saving what I have left for the medical professionals who have to treat them and the rest of us who are suffering due to their belligerent ignorance.

They cannot be brought back to sanity. I doubt they'll accept a vaccine. They'll think it a Democratic Mind Control plot to make them vote against Republicans. This is the logic of the Salem Witch trials - an alternative reality, and explanation that has no basis in fact. With people like them, the virus as an element of natural selection, a pruning out of loud, social people who don't hunker down during obvious widespread illness and fatalities.

Which is my long-winded way of saying there's nothing you can do about it.

Shoganai is an important word in Japanese. It can be translated "it can't be helped." It's often used to describe Japanese culture, thinking and values. Shoganai is essentially a philosophy. It says that if something is out of your control it's better to quickly accept it and move on.

But I'm willing to take another hack at the problem. The original post mentions how these people are dying full of hatred and anger, and I think that goes for at least some of their surviving friends and relatives, being full of hatred and anger. I know I've been wrong at times in my life, and while I might not have appreciated it at first, I remember the folks who gently (or strenuously) tried to re-orient my thinking more in line with my principles and ethic.

I don't know that there's one magic phrase, but I'd remind the grieving survivors that in 2010, it was Democrats and Democrats only who tried to get universal health insurance to the American people, and force insurance companies not to deny coverage for "pre-existing conditions." It's been the Republicans who have tried mightily since then for 10 years to strip coverage away from our citizens. If a survivor is filled with hatred and anger, please consider for a moment who you should be properly mad at.

Somehow, cult leader Trump has activated the inability to believe the virus is real, or that he is a mega-liar.

Throw in the adult-onset oppositional defiance disorder, ie the 'You are not the boss of me!' thinking, and you have perfect volunteers for COVID deaths. I guess the anger and hate comes from finding out you have been duped bigly.
Too late by then, unfortunately.

Something about America that makes it fertile ground for cultism - be it based on religion, the worship of money, a single person or fame.
No idea where it stems from though. Lack of critical thinking skills? The education system? The fake comfort of putting your existence and future in the hands of someone else?

Great term that, 'adult-onset oppositional defiance disorder' - describes the situation perfectly.
