Twitter goes after Instagram

According to an article in the San Jose Mercury, Twitter will now allow "Fleets", tweets that disappear after 24 hours.
Can this be used in a nefarious way by popular Twitter personalities, especially those in politics?
Can the "Way back engine" capture these forever?

I have been deeply involved in tech for my whole life. While I can tell lots of interesting stories about the industry, I can say I have never seen any tech actually improve anyone's life.

This will further create craziness in our society by people constantly jumping from one line of bullshit top another, and then they can't refer to it later on. It's worse than FOX News hyping some bullshit, and when it's debunked, they just move to the next without telling their rube viewers that the crap they sold them was, well crap.
