So a lot of rural and small town people figured it wasnt their problem and carried on as usual. Not all of course but Ive been seeing more super spreader events in the Midwest and rural areas. A lot of people are planning on having their usual thanksgiving celebrations. If we dont hit 200k (daily new) this week, we will very soon.

(22,250 posts)We can't go to any family events because we are the only ones who are practicing social distancing. We missed a wedding already.
So we are having a turkey breast, squash casserole, rolls, cherry pie, maybe some green beans or asparagus (if it isn't $5 a pound) probably mashed potatoes.
Plus we can have it at 6 pm if we want to. (at our family gatherings, we eat at noon and rush through everything to be done in time for the damn Cowboys game) We don't like football so we will probably watch holiday movies.

(5,007 posts)We finally agreed to it because we have not seen them in months. We plan to eat together in our backyard if the weather holds up. Right now it is supposed to be 62 degrees.
We might end up meeting them halfway to drop food off if the weather is bad.
Another option is to open all of the windows on the backside of our house(we have a lot along the back and side sunroom) along with the French doors (there is a screen). We would also use two air purifiers. Even with all of that we are still not keen on having indoor guests.
So we are praying for good weather.

It's not hard to understand since those are the places where we have shipping ports and airports.

(12,904 posts)I think I had the virus in January. I talked to a guy from my town last Saturday, who told me he went to a work meeting of 15 people last January, and they all got sick, and all are now presuming COVID.
It just took longer to get to the rural areas. But, the virus seems to have found a place to feast there. Theyre gonna have to get smarter.

The ongoing phases spread through the lower population areas because of how "dense" the population is.

After the 1st wave broke, and were going stir-crazy we took a socially-distanced trip to our yearly weekend in Coulee Country after Memorial Day.
We wore masks any time we were near others, but we felt like we had horns growing out of our heads. The resort staff were the only others with masks. Huge families crammed together in units designed for 4.
Now they are shipping their sick to us because they no longer have capacity.

(19,037 posts)In MI, we are seeing a ton of small towns with major outbreaks, they don't have hospitals equipped to deal with this though, so their patients get shipped to the cities who have major hospitals. Here in Grand Rapids we have record hospitalizations for Covid, but a large portion of the sick people are from up North small towns.
And people can stop pretending, this spread right now has a large component that was caused by Trump rallies where no one wore masks. The swing states are getting hammered because of Trump rallies.

(10,160 posts)I saw a headline in a local paper theorizing Halloween parties are at least partially responsible. I thought about it, and the timing is about right. And I know a lot of adults go all in for Halloween.
