Treason is actively taking up arms against the United States, or providing support to countries with which we are actively at war. Providing the coordinates to a military base to the Japanese in 1944, that would be treason. I have even misused the word when talking about how Nixon and Reagan went behind the government's back and spoke to Vietnam and Iran respectively to win their elections. It was traitorous but it was not treason.

It can be sedition; inciting unrest against the established order. It is definitely an abuse of power, for which he has already been impeached once, it is elections fraud. Any of those should land him in prison for the rest of his life. Is Trump a traitor? Without a doubt. We do need to use terms correctly though, otherwise they tend to lose their meanings.

President-elect Joe:

I KNOW you move on. But you CANNOT permit this to pass. This is a federal crime.

This is a federal crime. He needs to be taken to the blue room in the white house and told to stand in the corner until January 20. After that, he can rant all he wants in the uber car taking him to the airport.

That's not to be minimized. This is serious shit. It just takes a handful of people, and a coup CAN succeed and negate the wishes of 80 million voters.

MI and PA law aren't on his or MI, PA legislators side, all the legal options are on our side.

While I expect it will fail, a coup is exactly what Trump is attempting. We should be concerned.

The Washington post and New York Times agree. https://www.democraticunderground.com/100214587963

Including in Michigan with Trump making a direct effort to prevent certification, they should have refused to tHe his call - or, at most, declined to go to visit him.

They get a trip to DC and they get to tell Pissolini that his coup is a no go in MI.

The law in MI is very clear, the winner of the popular vote is the winner of the electoral votes and the MI legislature has absolutely say in this.

Even state legislator Shirkey stated that earlier this week or late last week.

And then there's this:

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/06/supreme-court-electoral-college-ruling-states-can-force-electors-to-abide-by-popular-vote.html

Electoral College voters can be forced to back state popular vote winners, Supreme Court says

States can require Electoral College voters to back the victor of their state’s popular vote, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously Monday.

Two cases were brought by Electoral College voters in Washington state and Colorado who refused to back Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016, despite her wins in those states.

Like most states, Washington and Colorado have laws that require electors to vote for their pledged candidate. The electors argued that the enforcement of those laws was unconstitutional.

One other thing, Gov. Whitmer has the power to remove remove any elector who refuses to follow the law and appoint a replacement elector.

Republicans should be publicly rejecting Trump's attempted coup - not lending credence to this dangerous narrative by publicly playing along.

then it would be worth it for them to see the look on his face.

But, you're right, no repuke should even be meeting with him on this.

The good news is that, like everything else Pissolini's tried, has gone down in flames spectacularly.

One. Trump is most certainly speaking to legislators at the White House, and even if he was not, how does the location of the meeting change anything about the purpose of the meeting? Do you think that Trump is just having GOP legislators, who he thinks can select the State's electors regardless of the vote outcome, just to have a glass of milk?

Two. Do you know what a coup is? It is when a person or group of people attempt to take, or to retain power through means other than those legally sanctioned by the rules and traditions of the country. Trump lost the election. He lost the popular vote, and he lost the electoral college vote. Trump is actively trying to interfere with the election by trying to convince or coerce state legislators to subvert the will of the people in order to remain in power. What would you call that?

This and MI “meetings” are designed to amp up the heat as a negotiation for departure. Who next? GA or AZ?

What a dangerous game these Republicans are playing.
