Potential problems with people getting the vaccine here in the U.S.

Last edited Sun Nov 22, 2020, 03:11 PM - Edit history (1)

I must first say these are mostly because so many people are just plain stupid.

We need a high percentage of the population to be vaccinated to reach a national immunity.

So first are the anti-vaxers, hopefully there are not that many of them to cause a big problem.

Then there are the Trumpers. Will Trump come out against the vaccine because Biden is in charge? if so that could mean tens of million refuse to get it and this is a big problem.

Then there is the fact people need two shots. I see two potential problems.
First that is a very big data base to keep straight to make sure everyone gets the right second vaccines from the right company. There could be three or four vaccines next year. And there needs to be about 600 million doses all together. This is a monumental task that is ripe for error.
And then there is the problem of people themselves not getting the second shot. Some might forget or think one shot is enough. Others might have some slight adverse effects from the first shot (this even happens with flu shots) and decide they don't want the second. If we are relying on everyone to be smart and informed about this, we are fooling ourselves. I mean, did you see the last election?

A other problem, how long will people wait on line for a vaccine? Here in NY I have seen 100 people and more on line for testing. Will people wait hours for a vaccine? Or just keep putting it off, delaying immunity that much longer?

Let's hope TPTB have taken all this into consideration, but that might also be expecting too much.

I would love to get on a plane and see my grandkids.

I'm hoping because of age, health conditions, and my work with elderly that I will be getting a vax in the second tier.

Love to show a certificate that says I am no danger to other passengers.

One of the reasons Biden moving forward on his Transition is vital.

the vaccinee proof of documentation and followip instructions. They will probably build additional redundancy, e.g. sending you an e-mail as well as a hard copy, c.c. to your primary care provider, etc.
I have a yellow international vaccination card and I plan to take it and have someone sign it as well.

The only good thing about a vaccine coming out before the end of Trump's term is that hopefully he will want to claim credit and tout his legacy. Watch for quotes about him praising the vaccine (before he can change his mind) and post on social media or show to reluctant Trumpster relatives.

Appeal to people's greed, too. If they own a business, tell them customers are more apt to want to come back and shop there if the owner and all employees have been vaccinated.

Let those who want to travel know that it's possible some countries could make vaccines mandatory to enter.

I hope that schools and large employers make it mandatory, along with medical facilities, day cares, etc.

It will be important to remind everyone to get the booster even if they had minor side effects. It's easy to forget. This post reminds me that I had the first of a two-part hepatitis vaccine when I traveled abroad but never got around to the booster.

People who change insurers or don't have insurance may easily get confused about which vaccine they've had. I wonder if it provides any protection if you get part 1 of one vaccine and part 2 of a different one? Or is that useless?

His arm hurt after each shot and he ran a fever for a day or so after the firs shot. This will be a drawback for son. I will be getting the vaccine as soon as possible

(state employee) offers a premium discount if I do certain things like fill our a health status survey and get a flu shot. I'd bet good money getting the COVID-19 vaccine will be added to that list!

I think you're spot on!
A hundred bucks for a vaccine, to a million patients costs the same as 300 people getting really sick.
And, they regain the reliability of their actuarial based investment timing.
Works for them, works for their customers.

There’s research starting on whether getting 2 different vaccine formulations is as effective, or even more so, than 2 of the same.

The man in the oval office will never give a single vaccine shot to anyone. Maybe the public health officials in the 50 states, thousands of counties, districts, cities, towns will be the ones that actually vaccinate the population of our country. They will be the ones that have to identify the folks that cannot come to the city centers, the county seats, or other locations to get vaccinated. They will be the ones to solve the problem.

It needs a nationally organized endeavor.
The front line workers can only work with the resources they are given.
And distribution. To places without hospitals or pharmacies need the Federal government to step in.

"Then there are the Trumpers. Will Trump come out against the vaccine because Biden is in charge? if so that could mean tens of million refuse to get it and this is a big problem."

This is what worries me.

Anti-vaxers are a fairly small minority. They don't worry me as much as the considerable percentage of Trump Davidians that will not get the vaccine simply because Biden will occupy the Oval Office

No other records will be needed.

Or so I've read on the internet.

Actually, CVS, Walgreens, and various health insurance companies don't seem to have a problem keeping records.

to remind people about the second shot?

We are talking about over 300,000,000 people. How many people will ignore this?

Do you think there will be a phone bank that keeps contacting all those who don't get the shots?

I had to keep on top of getting my second shingles vac. The local Duane Reade never contacted me.
