The Trump Team Now Has Only One Remaining Strategy - Obstruction
Their lawsuits have failed - miserably. They have no actual evidence - only suspicions and false claims. Appeals of lower court decisions are doomed to failure.
So, all that is left is to do stupid things, like obstruct a recount in Wisconsin. They have no hope of overturning the results there, and no hope that any court will throw out the votes of an entire urban county. So, they engage in petty obstruction that does nothing but slow down the recount. Already two GOP "observers" have been removed from the place where the recount is happening - one for shoving an election official and one for refusing to wear a requirefd mask properly.
All that is possible at this point is to try to slow the process down. But, to what end? There will be no overturning of the votes in any state. The states will certify their elections, because elections are a state matter, not a national matter. There will be no legislative slates of electors in any states.
Donald J. Trump simply cannot believe he lost the election. He will not believe that he lost. However, he did lose, and will be forced to leave office on January 20. He can deny the process, but he cannot deny the fact that he will no longer be POTUS on that date.
I still firmly believe that his response, in the end, will be to resign so he can get a pardon from his Vice President, who will become President upon Trump's resignation. He will not attempt to pardon himself, because he knows that is a sketchy move that will probably not stand. In the end, he will resign for his own protection against federal criminal charges. Self-preservation is his last safe harbor.
Until then, though, he will obstruct in any way he can. He will deny Biden the smooth transition that is essential. He will continue to fire people, reposition people, and will fail to act as the chief executive in any productive way. He will issue futile executive orders for President Biden to reverse. He will continue to lie on Twitter and to pretend that he won.
He may also issue pardons for his own family and, perhaps, a few loyalists to him who have not angered him about anything.
He will obstruct until he can obstruct no more, and then he will resign and take his pardon. He is Donald J. Trump the Narcissist. He can do no other.
