Trump team making false argument about his 2016 transition

WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s not just President-elect Joe Biden’s transition that’s under a microscope.

President Donald Trump and his allies are harking back to his own transition four years ago to make a false argument that his own presidency was denied a fair chance for a clean launch. Press secretary Kayleigh McEnany laid out the case from the White House podium last week and the same idea has been floated by Trump’s personal lawyer and his former director of national intelligence.

The comparisons are part of a broader attempt by Trump and his team to undermine the legitimacy of Biden’s election and his right to an orderly transition by unspooling mistruths about both this election season and Trump’s treatment four years ago.

“It’s worth remembering that this president was never given an orderly transition of power. His presidency was never accepted,” McEnany told reporters who questioned the Trump administration’s refusal to cooperate with the Biden transition.

But the situations are far different.

The day after her defeat in 2016, Democrat Hillary Clinton conceded.

“Donald Trump is going to be our president,” she said. “We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.”

The next day, President Barack Obama, who had portrayed Trump as an existential threat to the nation, invited the president-elect to the White House and visited with him in the Oval Office. Obama’s aides offered help to Trump’s incoming staffers.

They’re trying to make the case that “half the country wasn’t happy and some people said mean things” is the same as “I will systematically block and sabotage any attempt at a peaceful transition of power” =/=

Obama had a thorough transition planned for every department.
Basically a full course in how our government works.
Trump team sent NO ONE into some departments for weeks.
At Dept of Agriculture NO ONE showed up until week of the Inauguration.
Several Departments they showed up at the only thing at all that they wanted was a list of the employees appointed by Obama. Sole intention seemed to be to dismantle the civil service employees.
Instead of teams coming from Trump it would be individuals, several of them wet behind the ears college kids who had worked in the Trump campaign.
When people showed up they took some notes and none of the materials they were offered. Fully bound and detailed materials on each Dept of the Government.

Lewis' book is a mind-boggling read about their perfidy, incompetence, and ignorance.
I guess you don't really need to know anything about what you have been sent to destroy, but I like to think it means they overlooked a lot when they go it and tried to destroy governmental functions. It also makes me wonder though, most of these had HUGE funding operations and funds from congress. I bet there is a money trail out of the Departments where they did destroy functions. Lewis said they were especially hostile to the SCIENCE operations of each department.

And since they have been slow to do a transition for Biden, my guess is that they have NOTHING PREPARED. They would get too close to the details of their corruption.

Still, he wasn’t denied an orderly Transition. Not by anyone but himself, anyway. I still call bullshit on the idea that because they fumbled out of the gate, that justifies what Trump’s doing to try and sabotage the incoming Biden administration. I don’t think it’ll work, but the pettiness is staggering and the excuse laughable.

Of course, he never actually wanted to do the hard work of being president. He wanted the title, the prestige, to show everyone that if Obama could do it, he could. (Spoiler: no he couldn’t)

No matter what happened with the Obama-to-Trump transition, is that any reason for Trump to be uncooperative? While the obvious truth is that the outgoing Obama administration was every bit as gracious to Trump as you would expect, we're not talking about that transition in 2020. We're talking about Trump departing from what is, after all, a temporary gig no matter how you look at it. Nobody is elected President for Life, not even Donald J. Trump. He knew (or should have known) that this day was coming, in his case sooner rather than later, but it was coming nevertheless.

It's not Joe Biden's fault that Trump is such an immature jerk he never envisioned the day he would be turned out of the White House.

of "turning the other cheek."

What if we tried this:

"Oh, Donnie, I'm SO sorry that they've been so mean to you. How unfair they've been, how badly they've treated you, and yet you still want to ignore the will of the people and ignore the Constitution and the laws that are part of our governing nation.
After all, you just want to be "their" leader, golf when you want, smite those so deserving, and take care of your family and businesses just as they would do if they had the chance to do so with a total lack of integrity and conscience.
It's just not fair!!!!!"

"You know what, Donnie?
Why don't you just take your (golf) ball and go home to Mar-a-Lago.
They don't deserve you!
Who knows, you might even get some nice friends from New York visiting you soon to talk about how you've been such a great businessman running the other "TRUMP" thingies while you played "President."
Now, won't THAT be fun?"
