Question about the upcoming vaccines

If you get inoculated with one of the new vaccines (assuming they get FDA approval and are shown to be effective), can you still get Covid-19? I ask because the news reports say that we need to keep wearing masks and social distancing, etc. I can understand why that would be necessary to get the disease under control. But if I get the vaccine, will I personally be safe from catching Covid?

So, from first dose to immune is at least 5 weeks. Its not yet clear if you can still carry it and pass it to others even thought the vaccine will protect you.

I'll probably keep wearing a mask longer than most people. I especially like social distancing.

5. Some people who are vaccinated will still get covid if it is still circulating

in the community. When they compared incidence of infections in people who received the vaccines vs. placebo, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines reduced the incidence by approximately 95% and 94%, respectively. Neither reduced the risk by 100%, so there is still a small but real chance of becoming infected even if vaccinated. The hope is that if everyone is vaccinated, if immunity is durable, and if the virus doesn't mutate in a way that outsmarts the vaccine, we will eventually reach herd immunity and it will die out or at least become extremely rare. We aren't there yet, so even if you get in on the vaccination anytime soon, you will need to continue your precautions.
