Trumps conspiracies have MAGA world talking Georgia boycott
It's hard to tell if the online chatter reflects wider voter sentiment, but some Republicans have expressed concern.

President Donald Trumps demonization of mail-in voting may have cost him votes in the recent election. Now, his demonization of Georgias entire electoral system is hurting his partys chances at keeping the Senate.
Driven by Trumps insistence that Georgias elections are indelibly rife with fraud, conspiratorial MAGA figures are calling for a boycott of the two Senate runoff races, slated for Jan. 5, that will determine which party controls the upper chamber.
Their reason: The two GOP candidates, Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, are not only insufficiently pro-Trump, they may be complicit in Georgias electoral fraud.
It doesnt matter that both candidates are essentially lock-step with Trump, or that there is no evidence of links to electoral malfeasance. On Twitter and its less-restrictive alternative Parler, Trumps more hardline followers have linked the duo to the presidents favorite and untrue voter-fraud theories. Hashtags like #CrookedPerdue and #CrookedKelly are flying around. The two lawmakers Parler accounts are brimming with posts accusing them of being secret liberal DemoRats.
The swelling anger is not just emanating from everyday QAnon believers in the MAGAverse. Its also coming from prominent lawyers working on Trumps behalf, including Sidney Powell, who was briefly a lead attorney in Trumps push to overturn the election.

(16,254 posts)My grandson and I are tracking different branches and are coming up with all kinds of goodies, including royalty (no jewels). In fact, we are presently concentrating on one teenage boy who supposedly was on the Mayflower. When they lowered a small boat to come ashore, Columbus hit bottom and the boy jumped out and pulled the boat to ground.
We found that in a timely manner with Thanksgiving and all.
Thanks for the info.

(7,430 posts)Columbus was NOT on the Mayflower. The Mayflower was the name of the ship that brought a group of Pilgrims to what became New England. Columbus was on the La Santa Maria, decades earlier, that sailed to the Caribbean.

(16,254 posts)My grandson has the info and my brain automatically tied Columbus with the boy and Mayflower. His name is Samson, as I remember. He was 16 or so and came with his relatives. I'll have to get the info from Shaun when he's finished. Working from memory over a phone conversation obviously doesn't work.

in the presidential election. It's right there in the Constitution. Also the Federalist Papers and the Bible. He could still catch up easily! Write him in MAGAt's! We can do this!

(5,499 posts)It would centralize a lot of power with the Trump wing of the party. And they are some petty bitches. I think we would see more centrist Republicans either become members of the Democratic Party or they would try to split and create their own party.
Is a three party system viable?
Quemado
(1,262 posts)Losing the two Georgia Senate seats would definitely do some damage, but I don't think it will be the end of the GOP.
One factor that would diminish (but not end) the GOP as we know it is demographics. The GOP has become essentially a white nationalist party. It's projected that white people will be less than 50% of the US population by 2050. But in certain states, the white population will still be in the majority. For example, I don't see a huge increase in the non-white population of Wyoming coming anytime soon. So, in certain states, the GOP will maintain it's domination for a long time.
Georgia has become a bellwether state. Georgia is the 8th most populous state with a significant black population. Atlanta is the 8th largest metropolitan statistical area in terms of population. Georgia may turn blue permanently.
If the Trump wing of the party goes too far to the right, we might see more people who identify with the Republican party finally get disgusted and leave, but that remains to be seen.
A three party system is probably not going to happen anytime soon. Why not? Dark money. Also, third parties like the Green Party and the Libertarian Party currently do not have enough people interested in them to make a difference in most political races.

(5,499 posts)What do the never Trumpers do if he ends up being as ble to exert defining influence over the party? Do they try to make the Democratic Part more centrist? Or do they just start sitting out politics?
I think one (really 2) elections could make a big difference if Republican voters stay home at Trump's direction. You could argue that his influence will wan over time. But how much time? If you couple that will changing demographics in Texas, it could be very difficult for a far right party to stay relevant.
Quemado
(1,262 posts)If Texas turns blue (or even Florida), it's bye-bye GOP as a major political party at the national level.
The problem with never Trumpers is that there isn't enough of them.

(2,125 posts)Let's forget for a moment how dumb they can be -
Imagine realizing that you suddenly realize that a win by the GOP would actually be a disaster, but you can't figure out to extricate yourself from following the path to that conclusion. Getting people not to vote is a neat way of achieving a better goal (and wouldn't it be a better goal for all?) without appearing to lose face?

Some will die off, some will be so bummed when their king is not re-elected by some Supreme Court miracle. Grow the base, the suburbs in NC, TX, GA. Educate young voters on the evils of Repubs.
This 74 million has to be the absolute worst case peak of this evil movement.

(2,957 posts)A mainstream media story on this is mandatory. A series of mainstream media stories. This has to be drilled into mainstream consciousness.
They created Parler claiming they had a free speech right to promote baseless and false conspiracy theories without being "censored". Note that in a significant number of cases, the false assertions were merely flagged and not removed on Twitter and Facebook.
So, the MAGAts take their conspiratorial craziness to their free speech haven, Parler. And what does Parler do to a conspiracy theory expressed on their platform that could jeopardize Republicans' chances in GA? They censor and remove it!
Interestingly, while many pronounce Parler like the English word "Parlor" - the room where people convene after dinner to meet and talk ("I'll have tea in the Parlor" - when spelled Parler it is pronounced "Parlay" and is the French verb "to speak".
So, the "freedom fries" brigade is embracing a term from their hated and stated enemy, the French!

The difference between Purdue and Ossoff is 88,098 so if about 90,000 out of about 2.4 million took this route Ossoff would win.
And only about 0.040 percent of the total previously voted would have to go that way.
Edited for arithmetic error.
