A Pennsylvania appeals court judge ordered state officials on Wednesday to halt any further steps toward certifying election results, a day after Gov. Tom Wolf said he had certified Democrat Joe Biden as the winner of the presidential election in Pennsylvania.
Wolfs administration quickly asked the state Supreme Court to block the ruling from taking effect, saying there was no conceivable justification for it.
Commonwealth Court Judge Patricia McCullough, a Republican, had issued the order and set a hearing for Friday, but canceled it amid the appeal.

(913 posts)It's going nowhere.
PA has already certified its choice of electors and the certification has been deposited in the National Archives.
There is nothing to "halt". It's over.

If people don't keep nailing it's feet to the perch it would be pushing up daisies by now.

(42,700 posts)The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has not taken any action with regard to this case as yet. I have no doubt that they will overturn the lower court's stay in short order.
The filing of the appeal was the reason the judge "continued" (i.e. postponed) the hearing scheduled for yesterday. That plus the fact she was busily writing an actual opinion to support her otherwise unexplained stay order (as required by the PA rules of appellate procedure when an order is appealed to the PA Supreme Court).

A federal appeals court on Friday rejected President Trumps request for an emergency injunction to overturn the certification of Pennsylvanias election results, delivering another defeat to the presidents attempts to reverse the outcome in a state that has already formalized President-elect Joe Bidens victory there.
Trumps campaign had filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit after a U.S. district court last weekend dismissed its federal lawsuit against Pennsylvania election authorities and rejected the campaigns request to be allowed to revise the suit to include more allegations.
The lawsuit sought to halt certification of Pennsylvanias results on the grounds that Republicans were illegally disadvantaged because some Democratic-leaning areas allowed voters to correct administrative errors on their mail ballot

(669 posts)Case in OP is state, not federal, and is still alive. It's going to die a quick death, but the PA SC hasn't killed it yet.

(4,533 posts)On Jan 1 without certification every seat in the PA house will be vacant, and the Governor can appoint democrats to every seat. In the State Senate half the seats will be vacant so the Governor can appoint democrats to all those seats. Then the legislature can redraw state district lines to guarantee Dems will always have a majority. So fine, block certification.
