Utah’s Desert Monolith Mysteriously Vanishes THAT WAS QUICK Tracy Connor, Executive Editor Updated Nov. 28, 2020 10:21PM ET / Published Nov. 28, 2020 10:02PM ET Utah Bureau of Land Management Utah’s mysterious metallic monolith, which made headlines after wildlife workers spotted it in the desert during a sheep-counting flyover, has vanished. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the only thing left of the 12-foot, three-sided stainless steel structure erected in a remote part of federal land south of Moab is the triangle that topped it off and a hole in the ground. “We have received credible reports that the illegally installed structure, referred to as the ‘monolith’ has been removed from Bureau of Land Management (BLM) public lands by an unknown party,” the agency said in a statement. “The BLM did not remove the structure which is considered private property.” Also still unknown is who installed the structure, which was apparently undisturbed from 2016 until this week, and why.

9. Found this in the NYT.
"Some online sleuths, using Google Earth to determine when the sculpture materialized in the desert, are still asserting that it was placed there around 2016, well after McCracken’s death."
There's speculation that it was made by the late artist John McCracken or an acolyte of his. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/27/arts/design/john-mccracken-utah-monolith.html This is the DU member formerly known as Chiyo-chichi.

11. sounds like a senior art project for Utah State
bravo! good luck getting a grade on it. There is an awful lot of documentation at this point, though. Including a shot of the cardboard under the stainless steel skin. Looks great in most of the videos, though.
