A simple answer for those who think investigations and prosecutions shouldn't be done:

If the Trump Administration is not prosecuted or sanctioned, Executive Branch self-dealing, grifting as policy, and outright treason to the country will become normalized and even expected.

At that point, its anything goes, and we’ll have finished our transformation to a failed state.

1. I don't think anyone is saying prosecutions shouldn't be done.

What people are saying is that the prosecutions should be done by the appropriate agencies, and Joe should not be the spearhead for them.

The investigations should happen because we need to find out everything that happened. Prosecutions will be difficult because of pardons and other issues .

But the reason this was allowed was because of the large number of racists that were ok with it from Trump.

it will get worse every time they gain power and as you say, we could do a slow crawl to being a failed state. After every cycle, America allows them to just say "aw shucks" and move on without consequences.

Considering the perils of climate change, nationalism and worsening global economic inequality, I really fear we could be on the brink of another Great Depression or world war and either of those could take us further into fascism and plutocracy.

Trying hard to not be a doom-and-gloomer but a lot of ill winds are blowing, with high-wealth people behind much of it.

There are many cases where choosing not to prosecute serves the common good. Deciding not to prosecute may cause a future president to break a law. But deciding not to prosecute may also prevent five innocent future presidents from being jailed. It may prevent a future civil war.

7. Donald Trump influence corrupted the DOJ, and he was on his way to establishing his own dictatorship

This election avoided that final outcome this time.
Trump's administration must be completely investigated by independent prosecutors and if laws were broken prosecuted for breaking those laws.
To ignore that will allow another future competent version of a dictator to come forward with no historical procedures in place to control their illegal behavior. In other words, investigate Donald Trump, see what went wrong with his presidency and enact laws to prevent future presidents from being able to manipulate the government the way Trump did.
