According to her Twitter feed, Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar had 37 people over for the holiday12 kids and 25 adults... it was lit !!and then quickly followed up with an apology. Sorry my bad wasnt trying to make nobody feel bad.I just had my family in my home for the first time and it felt so good & uplifted me .I spent soo much money getting every1 tested but it felt worth it.I wasnt trying to offend no1, she wrote, adding, ME specially and everyone that works around me get tested literally 4 times a week. Im In the middle of work and Everytime we clock in we MUST GET TESTED ! Of course, the issue there is that it can take days after coming in contact with someone who has the virus to register a covid-19 positive result, and tests themselves are not foolproof. Someone in attendance couldve very well been positive at the massive event.
But hey, at least she didnt pull a Kim Kardashian-West and fly all her guests to a private island as we laypeople enjoyed our TV dinners in isolating silence?
This aint it, and Im super not looking forward to celebrities holiday plans!

You don't want to read the responses... it is so depressing that people just don't understand.

(2,193 posts)Seriously, I understand that she's a musical artist but her Tweets are beyond foul and she seems to bathe in ignorance, if her comments are anything to be taken seriously.
I'm drawing a blank, what is the 1960s equivalent of Cardi B?

(4,429 posts)about her.
I watched her WAP video and my friends bought the line that she is in control. And here (in the drugging men thing) she claims to have been in control.
Clearly, if she was sometimes 'in control' of the abusive behavior (drugging people is abusive, no?) - she wasn't always.
Lots of parallels between her video and her real life behavior.
This helps explain some things to me.
thanks!

(29,322 posts)Maybe Blues artists are the closest comparison but rap has had foul language since the 80s. Nothing new there. Besides most modern rap is very mild compared to late 80s and early 90s.
Cardi B is wrong for having a Thanksgiving that the experts were advising would lead to further spread but I don't care about her Tweets or music.

(49,982 posts)Are you talking about the sex stuff or the ignorance or just random stuff you don't like about her?
Cuz popular music back then was rife with inappropiate songs and references. Not to mention the actions of a lot of the "artists." Today, however, it's all on display via social media.
Like Bill Wyman (52) marrying the 18 year old he had been seeing since she was 13. And then his son from a previous marriage marrying his stepmothers mother, making him his own step-grandfather.
Jerry Lee Lewis: ditto marrying a teenager. Twice.
Or Eric Clapton's racist rant to "Keep Britain white!"
The Rolling Stones: "Sticky Fingers" "You, you made a dead man come" Under My Thumb etc.
The Beatles lyrics in "Run For Your Life"
Gary Glitter - nothing more to add here
etc etc etc

(9,888 posts)If one finds oneself doing the exact opposite of Cardi B one should congratulate oneself for doing the right thing. I'm sure she is very troubled, but as a role model she is a "what not to do." Not that she isn't in good company these days.

And to preempt any tedious questions:
No, I do not approve of Cardi B having a large family gathering for thanksgiving.

(2,328 posts)Most people here only know of her because of her vote for daddy Bernie, bitch tweet. Evidenced by someone else in the comments bringing up Susan Sarandon, someone that has no connection to Cardi B other than also being supportive of Bernie. Sarandon is another celebrity who is only brought up here for hating on Bernie by proxy.
I see it, and I recognize it, and Ill call it what it is.
Do you think we are that ignorant of popular culture?
I know here and didn't even know she endorsed Bernie, which to me is the only positive thing she has ever done.

I also have her name on "Auto-trash by Keyword" because I really don't care for all the drama. She has nothing to say that I would be interested in, anyway.

Sarandon; ok! She gets slammed here. I've participated because I think she's wrong. Her public statements have been provably nonsensical. It's not hate. It's vehement disagreement with someone perpetrating a fraud.
Sanders: much, much less.

(36,841 posts)Dr. Gunter's NYT article (regarding WAP):
As a gynecologist, Im used to dispelling all kinds of vaginal misinformation in the office and online, but the one myth that is the hardest to undo and that I encounter regularly with patients is the idea that vaginal lubrication is problematic.
These women dont have an itch or an odor. They dont have pain with sex. They have no symptom other than their concern about the volume of their vaginal discharge or that theyre overly lubricated during sex. Or both.
I know the cruelty and damaging messages these women receive from various sources men, mothers, friends, magazines and social media all because of a system built and maintained (often by those without vaginas) that revolves around the culture of the problematic, shameful and, yes, wet vagina.

I am glad she has the resources to get so many of her family tested and brought together; I'm sure it was uplifting.
My wife and I found it uplifting to distribute food at a senior apartment building. Unfortunately one of the ladies my wife spent time with informed us of a positive test over the weekend. Although masks were worn, the school where my wife works informed her per protocol she must take off two weeks without pay. Since her paycheck was going to be for Christmas gifts she will spend her required time off making gifts instead.
If it helps Ms. B feel better, let her know I was not offended.
