Elliot Page, star of 'Juno' and 'The Umbrella Academy,' comes out as transgender

Elliot Page, who currently stars on Netflix's "The Umbrella Academy," came out as transgender on Tuesday.

"I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey," Page, who was previously known as Ellen Page, wrote.

"I can't begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I've been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community."

Page went on to write that although he feels "profoundly happy" about sharing his story, he's also scared "of the invasiveness, the hate, the 'jokes' and of the violence."

9. I loved "The Umbrella Academy."

Whenever that series comes up in discussion, I can't help but hear Tiffany in my head.

4. Good for him

I wish him happiness and safety.

Sad that I have to wish him safety but these are the times in which we live.

7. Wow! That's surprising.

This really resonated with me, as Iím in about the same position - especially the terror of being singled out, laughed at, and even murdered. I love how visible trans people are now, as itís helping more people understand.

To come out this this takes serious guts. I definitely wish him well!

11. Educate me! Is this an instance of being intersexed?

Intersexed is the condition of having genitalia of both sexes as I understand it!

Don't get it twisted - I'm happy that Elliot is happy to be who he is, I'm just want to make sure I understand who Elliot is...

14. Read what he said. It's not all that complicated, really.

You don't need to know any more than that, to be quite frank. You don't have to "make sure" of anything. Odds are you will never encounter Elliot in your life. It doesn't affect you, so it shouldn't matter to you.

18. Not necessarily.

Some people may be anatomically and physically male or female, but gender dysphoria causes them to not recognize themselves in their own body. It can be completely a psychological condition.

My best friend is a trans male, born totally female, and said he could not even look in the mirror at himself until he begun transitioning because nothing made sense.

He actually got into cutting before he was diagnosed because he literally wanted out of the skin that didn't match who he was.

Whether or not I was interpreting Elliott's statement correctly. And apparently I was reading too much into his statement...

I like to think that every time a high-profile person comes out and makes a powerful statement like this, that helps to make it a little easier for everyone else.

21. My husband found "Umbrella Academy" on Netflix. I wasn't interested, but I got hooked anyway.

Page's character of Vanya Hargreeves is one of the more captivating ones. Very strange and creepy. And those eyes... makes my hair stand on end. Scary.
