By going overboard for Trump Rudy is trying to earn his freedom and it seems that's worth a lot to Rudy.
But all the crazy statements in public make total sense now.
It was all for an audience of one to show his loyalty no matter what.
Because Rudy wants to avoid jail.

I don't think he can just forgive a blanket crime?
They don't have to admit to anything. There was one case over a hundred years ago (1915) that suggested you had to admit your guilt to use a pardon in defense to a charge but that was only dicta stated in the opinion, not part of the court's ruling.
Nixon was pardoned and admitted nothing.
