Here's why someone would resign a month before the term ends

Very simply, because Trump is punishing people who are trying to plan ahead for their next gig, because that's a de facto acknowledgement that Trump lost the election.

But by resigning, Barr can now freely pursue that next gig without having to make such an admission.

IOW: a very, very cowardly move by a coward.

and he probably just didn't want to stick around anymore. Trump has probably made things miserable for him and he's just done. Trump is a horrible manager. *womp* *womp* Has the rate of turnover in his WH for one term been the worst in history?

resign or be fired. Maybe he bought a pardon with the praise for Trump in his letter of resignation.

And, he's holding dirt. So, they don't dare pursue him when he's gone.
He wanted out, but by not being fired he doesn't lose "cred" with the radical right. (If there is such a thing.)
He thinks he's playing both hands in this game, but he's permanently stained in the eyes of tens of millions.

sure about any "rw cred", though since he said the one thing that gets ya Fired.. see Chris Krebs.. "No Fraud".

That's what keeps them going.. "stop the steal" while they're trying to STEAL the election from Biden & Harris Elect!.. that & giving More Money to trump to File MORE LAWSUITS. Last I heard it was against New Mexico this time!

He is not looking for a "next gig". A person in that position will be offered countless positions if they want something.
