We ought to hope that the GOP force the issue of contesting the election results on January 6th.

There is zero chance that they'll be successful. It requires a majority in both chambers of Congress to successfully challenge a state's certified electors. If a Republican Senator and a Republican Representative challenge the results in any or all battleground states, they'll force all of the GOPers to go on record about whether or not they support Trump's coup.

There is a reason Mitch McConnell is trying to strong arm the senators into opposing a challenge--he doesn't want them to have to go on record and described it as "a terrible vote."

This process will further fracture the GOP and has zero chance of impacting Biden's win. We ought to be cheering them on as they self destruct.

Today he wants to steal all the voting machines.
Tomorrow he will start stealing parking meters.

This whole Trump is thinking about declaring martial law thing is meant to give cover to all the GOP congressman to vote against the certification and by extension for Trump, because then they could claim they are just "supporting our military"

It doesn’t go to delegation vote unless there is an EV tie / no candidate got the majority of votes.

There is 0 chance that the certified electoral votes will be successfully contested and overturned.

The House only casts vote by state in the case of a contingent election, if no candidate receives a majority of electoral votes.

Pence is the presiding officer of the Senate for the incoming Senate. The 2 Georgia seats will be open because the election the day before will not be certified so it will be split 48-50 so neither party has the majority of 51, though the Republicans will have a plurality plus VP Pence. If both Democrats win you can be sure Republicans will stall the certification to the extent possible, perhaps into early February, so McConnell can be Majority Leader the first few critical days of the Biden term - think confirmation process. It will be a carnival.
