Pharmaceutical companies are out to make money, so the more people to take their drugs the better.

What I found particularly exciting is the potential to possibly work against devastating diseases like ALS. ALS in particular is one of the cruelest diseases out there. If this drug opens up new avenues to cure ALS, I’m thrilled.

I used to volunteer at a hospice that had ALS patients. That is a devastating disease.

Perhaps I should have been clearer in my post title about this drug also showing promise for ALS and Parkinson’s.

has to do with the untold numbers of potential treatments that work well on rodents but fail to translate to humans

...diseases there are for patients and their families, as the afflicted linger for years as they deteriorate further every day. Alzheimer’s in particular is a disease of aging, and as our population ages, one public-health fear has been a wave of cases.

not due yet, i'd guess it won't be a pressing issue for another 20 years or so, but those living will be shaped and defined by the answer
