Hanky is used as a prop.
But look at the end, he shuffles papers and tries to hide them.

(23,616 posts)I think it is a cheat sheet, but I also think that what he grabbed at the end was notes he had taken during the debate. Of course his cheat sheet could be inside the folded paper, but I wouldn't use what he had at the end that there is proof he brought a cheat sheet.

(18,458 posts)Also it is way to stiff to be just cloth. Perhaps it is a cloth with a paper in it. He does also pick up papers after the debate, but not anything cloth.

(1,881 posts)Because the Romney campaign (Mittens has nothing to hide in his tax returns, so he's not releasing them) said it was a handkerchief.

(1,185 posts)It is logic. You don't surreptitiously bring out a hanky and toss it on the lecturn...out of your front pocket. And a hanky doesn't shake down with a stack of paper. And you don't hand your son a dirty hanky.
Fail on many levels ... but we've already given in to the "they explained it already...move on...nothing to see here."
Hell, that's how he got here...Privileged, Lying, Cheating, Entitled, Arrogant White Man. Pissed me off to hear about the "Angry Black Man Syndrome" because Obama was so ashamed he put his head down. Is there no event that does not drag in his parentage?
Mitt was hyper and had crib notes...hanky, folded up piece of paper, whatever. We don't need to get over it.

(25,415 posts)The way it lands when it hits the podium is slightly heavy for just a hanky. And then the suspicious movement to get rid of some paper at the end of the debate. And using the hanky during the debate so one can say "see, I used my hanky!".
Or maybe I am just looking into this too much. I don't usually like to decide things without tons of evidence. But Mitt has cheated in a debate before...
In any case, he is still a LIAR.

(15,189 posts)And click start stop real close you can see it better. It looks like paper to me. Plus just the way Rmoney is just looking straight ahead to see if Jim saw him pull it out or not.

(21,925 posts)I want to know what the rules were. I would think it against the rules to bring anything to the lectern that isn't already there. Even if it appears to be a handkerchief that still troubles me because you can't be sure. It's more of the Romney arrogance of "trust me, even though I haven't done anything to earn your trust. I'm entitled to do whatever I want."

(25,366 posts)no cloth would hold it's shape like that. Cloth would be draped from the moment it left his pocket.

(24,096 posts)He has that knowing smirk when he looks at the camera. When he puts the hanky down it sort of flops, like it has a bit of weight - paper wouldn't do that unless it was a notepad. but he could easily put notes inside that hanky.
I think he wiped his mug once during the debates with that hanky. Maybe I'm mistaken. anyway, he's a known liar and cheater so of course he would do that. That smug look on his face practically broadcasts it.

(17,064 posts)It is too stiff to be a hankerchief, unless there is paper inside. Further more, he waits until the lectern blocks Leher's view before pulling it out of his pocket.

(25,089 posts)That's why I vote cheat sheet. It's hard to tell absolutely for sure just by looking at it. I'm going based on behavior.

(16,350 posts)Doesn't matter. Did he wipe his face with his hanky? No. He didn't need one. He cheated. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

(25,592 posts)Look in the area of the woman in the white shawl, to the right of the podium.
If it was paper, where is the footage of him opening it up?
Why didn't the mikes pick up the sound when he opened it?
If it were paper, why not wait until fully behind the podium?
Why not have an aid slip something in the papers already on the podium?
Better yet, why not have an ear piece?
I swear the paranoia can run as deep here as it does over on the other side.
Look at the video again. Don't believe everything you read, check for yourself.
Truth and facts are important. With the way he lied and blinded sided Obama with shit, I really don't think he needed any cheat sheets.

(1,925 posts)The pic shows both Pres Obama and Romney from the back, during the debate& you can see something odd? on Romney's lectern.
The resolution is excellent.. Sorry I can't link it..
The Du post was by 'cleduc', Oct 4, 10:16 am..'Did Romney bring cheat notes into the debate..
Hexola (#18) posted the photo at 11:10 am.... It shows what is on the 'desk' area of Romney's lectern.
I don't know when during the debate the photo was taken..

(22,336 posts)I can see him wanting to have it out so he doesn't have to dig in his pants during the debate if he needs to wipe his brow.
I'm enjoying the speculation though

(17,651 posts)I know there are many who think this is a big fat nothing issue, perhaps it is, perhaps it ain't but just the fact that we are even having this discussion proves a small point.
Mitt Romney and the Romney campaign has a problem defining Mitt Romney's character in a positive way. They've ALWAYS have had this problem! All the hard work they've done to define the public's perception of the Mitt Romney brand failed and is easily chipped away.
That so many people are questioning these actions proves to me that all the building-up of the shell aka Mitt Romney is on very shaky ground.
It's not about the CHEAT, it's the fact that we're questioning Mitt Romney's character.
