They're just trying to avoid responsibility, passing the buck to infinity.

2. I've been noticing, more and more,

that admitting mistakes seems to be "not acceptable" nowadays.

Not just in politics: I've noticed it in the workplace, in groups, and even among friends. And yeah, even if other people get royally screwed. It's amazing.
