Asked my Trump-voting Dad if he was watching events in DC today.

I was factual, and did not provoke with my opinion: "National Guard coming to clear the Capitol of Trump Supporters."

His Response: "Not as bad as all of your friends last summer burning down everything."

Now I feel like I've failed as a son. How could I let him get so brainwashed? It is a sad day in America, and it should have been a happy one. Everything Trump touches dies, and he touched our Democracy.

I always regret it. It’s hard to write off people you love. Today is terrible.

He's been brainwashed, along with 74 million others. It's in my family too, but I refuse to speak to them. That's the cure.

come around mentally and emotionally, but he may never be able to admit TO YOU that he was misguided. As long as he can admit it to himself, that's the important thing.

He did apologize for saying "my friends".

I don't even think anything was burned down in Seattle.

In that movie, the only thing that lets the filmmaker take action is her dad's senility. Mine isn't senile, and he's 2000 miles away.

you can't be his babysitter. My father died years ago, but not before about a solid decade and a half of Rush Limbaugh & Co brainwashing. I remember when he would listen to music on the radio. He rarely listened to anything but right wing propaganda from 1990 on. I'd imagine if he were alive today, he'd either have supported this awfulness, or at least absolved them with the holy water of whataboutism.

I have not heard it myself but I know that it is being investigated. Unfortunately, that doesn't make the news stream. Particularly on riechwing media.

The looting here in Seattle was not false-flag looting. It was opportunistic and organized.

But, even with the CHOP Occupation, no one burned anything down - that I know of. And the PBs definitely came up from PDX to provoke.

because their guy didn't get enough votes. They were shitty when they won and they are even more horrid now when slapped with reality of a loss.

Only the Dad's Senility made his un-brainwashing possible. They told him his radio broke and was stuck on NPR.

but if they were and were for Trump I'd cut ties. If you can read and write you know racism when you see and hear it. There are many people whose fear of a diverse America outweighs any principles or self-refliction they may or may not possess to begin with. I don't feel sad about people who'd support an insane fascist like Trump.
