I'm getting tired of hearing about the founding fathers

I don't know when this whole craze started, but what in the world is going on with everyone's obsession with our "founding fathers?"

I'm all for showing respect for history and the people who gave up so much for what I have...but is there no end? If Thomas Jefferson was quoted once in a newspaper, should that be the basis for our entire democracy? If Ben Franklin wrote it, is it necessarily true or should we even question the advice of the wisest men?

Which is why their work product reflects many compromises.

Oddly, the ones who fetishize their fictional construct of the "founding fathers" don't tend toward compromise much.

I hate the whole ink spot in a bowl of milk arguement...these liberty fools would get much more done if they didn't assume that we don't agree with them because we have never read anything and watch too much TV...they never thought for a moment that the founding fathers were capable of compromise.

They allowed slavery simply because it wasn't going to work otherwise...now that's a compromise.

BTW...I really wish I would have made that point in my writing...now my essay which looked so complete 20 minutes ago seems like its got a big hole in it.

such is life.

what ever is said next, is the most patriotic statement ever made.

Its a way to let the dopes know that the next statement will be of the "I love America" variety.

Its like "drill-baby-drill" lets the dopes know that the next statement is going to be about "energy".

They have a ton of these ... "socialism", "islamofacist", "France" ... so on.

"Go pee in the street if you want to live like the founding fathers."

Well, I'm not a bumper sticker writer.

I really think they feel that everyone respects them for wearing a powdered wig and beating a drum.

I feel the same way about the fools who leave their homes in the morning dressed as a cowboy, as if somewhere on the way to pick up a tin of tobacco they might see a wild bronco needing to be tamed.

Any time a GOPer brings up the founding fathers or the Constitution, they 'revise' to suit their own agenda. All bullshit.

When I hear that phrase I auto-assume the person saying it does not even understand who they're talking about.

So much for "all men are created equal". These people were not saints.

I do respect the Founding Fathers for coming up with a Constitution that has worked (reasonably well, all things considered) for over 200 years.
