I predict, as the Republican Party's civil war rages, you will see...

...people like Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, and multiple Republican House members, quit the Republican Party and join the newly created .... I guess the newly created Seditionist Party. This new political party will draw roughly half of the supporters away from the ranks of the current GOP. Watch and see who the first defectors will be and you will see just who plans to lead this new party. Nothing says that this is a well-thought-out move but it is really the only logical path forward for these extremists.

up to outsider characters. He always does so now he is wholly in Republican-land and out of America at large ..... so they can have him. When he was just rich his enemies were bankers his friends shady people like Stone or Manafort. When he was President his enemies decent public servants and experts and his friends Kim Jong Un and Putin.

4. Agree. They'll call themselves The Patriot Party.

Which will serve to not only further taint the real patriots, it will also take votes away from the GOP.

Ensuring that Democrats can really get some real work done while they waste their time pissing all over each other.

They’ll both just be constantly caught up trying to gain the vote of every despicable asshole in the country.

11. Isn't that what we all were expecting/hoping for in 2016...?

Trump comes in, splits the Republican Party, and either they deny him the nomination and he goes third-party and splits the vote, or else he wins the nomination and mainstream Republicans stay home in droves on Election Day; either way, a Clinton win is assured.

Turns out things often don't work the way you expect them to...

5. I think it may be the other way around

These extremist scumbags already practically own the Republican party now, and they're smart enough to understand the structural barriers facing third parties in this political system. I think they will be content to force the less-extreme GOPers to leave and form another party or go independent.

8. I agree with you.

People like the Lincoln Project, republican against Trump basically left the party while Trump overtook the republican party. Even at the "protest" yesterday, they were shouting "Trump party" as the speaker proudly said it's no longer republican party but Trump party.

6. Political Parties Require Big Bucks to Survive

This need for money explains why there has never been a viable 3rd party in the US. The GOP and Dem parties will always control the financial infrastructure needed to amass the billions needed to operate. Corporate donors are not going to fund some 3rd party that operates outside the traditional political 2 party system. Instead I expect there to be a clearer split within the GOP with a batsh*t crazy wing and a batsh*t crazier wing. The crazier wing will rule the day during the primary process where only the most extreme candidates can amass a majority vote. This also explains why the Socialist wing of the Dem party have never built up a viable party. It's also why Bernie always has to use the Dem party for his POTUS runs. Personally I don't think Independents should be allowed to run as Democrats.

12. While money has become a major obstacle in recent decades...

...the true impediment to third parties in U.S. politics has been our president-oriented, first-past-the-post political system that pretty much guarantees that a third party set up on one side of the political spectrum will result in the victory of the party most diametrically opposed to them. by splitting the vote on their own side. If, somehow, we were to transform our political to a parliamentary one with instant-runoff voting, you'd see a multitude of small parties suddenly becoming viable -- but, of course, such a transformation is virtually inconceivable.

9. The riot on Capitol Hill may have been the best thing that could have happened

There was a genuine worry about what an off the chain Trump would do in his last days in office. When multiple cabinet members, Pence, and the majority of the GOP in congress say enough is enough, Trump is back on the chain. His realization of vulnerability finally forced him to back down. So while woefully overdue, Trump finally gets his due or at least part of it.

It also means Trump goes out in utter disgrace, which will help to marginalize his post-presiduncy.

The fracturing of the GOP is pretty much icing on the cake. This is what the Lincoln Republicans knew what was going to happen when Trump got elected. He was going to bring the party down with him as it forced those in the party to decide which side of the crazytown border they were going to stand on.

Now anyone who continues to display their Trump flags and MAGA bullshit are instantly branding themselves as nutbags, and rational people, including their fellow Republicans just aren't going to give them the time of day.

We could actually get things done!
They will be divided and I don't think they will agree about anything.

15. I wish I could agree with you, but I can not.

If the Republican Party had even one ounce of integrity, or honest patriotism, it would purge itself of traitors like Hawley, and Cruz, forcing them to become either independents, or a tiny party, neither having any megabuck corporate/plutocratic backers. But, the Republican party does not possess even that much integrity, and even less honest patriotism.

All I see is the Republican Party keeping on keeping on, and continuing their whoring ways for those same megabuck corporate/plutocratic interests. After all that's where the money is, if you're a political party composed of greedy political hacks.
