Republicans own this

Republicans own this
The Capitol Hill mob was the logical culmination of years of mainstream Republican politics.

snip//

Blaming President Trump for this violence is, at this point, stating the obvious. He has been inciting his supporters for weeks, telling them that the election has been stolen and they need to stand up to save freedom. If you really believe that — took what the president said seriously — why wouldn’t you take dramatic action?

But the blame needs to go beyond Trump and land squarely on the Republican Party itself — an institution that, for decades, employed a political strategy that sowed the seeds of an uprising against the American state.

The animating force of modern Republicanism is this: Democratic Party rule is an existential threat to America and is by definition illegitimate. It is a belief that explains much of what we’ve seen from the GOP in the past few decades, the glue that binds together Republicans ranging from shitposters in the QAnon fever swamps to much of the GOP congressional caucus.

Whether elite Republicans genuinely believe what they tell their base is beside the point. The fact is their delegitimizing rhetoric has been the fuel of the conservative movement for many, many years now. Trump’s presidency, and the violence with which it is ending, represents the logical next step for the modern GOP — and where it goes from here will determine our future as a democracy.

for this years ago. It never would have gotten this far without it. This is simply the natural outcome. Did we really expect anything less?

But now it's time to destroy it, and we'd better do so.

Republicans should never have power again ever they are tools of the wealthy who will use any means to get and hold power. So here we are with Russia hacking, laughing, and an mass insurrection in DC.

4. Clearly, by the words he uses, Joe Biden understands this

and he has many in his decades long wide circle who understand as well.

I believe he will be the best qualified president since Eisenhower, because of his long experience and careful way he speaks and formulates his actions. Just look at the cabinet, hear the reasons for his decisions. Don't get me wrong, other presidents have been good or even great, but the resumes of these two run deeper. We're in good hands. And he made a great choice for VP, the more former prosecutors in office the better, this is their moment.

6. The labels Democratic, Liberal, Progressive - they are all threatening to authoritarians
Fri Jan 8, 2021, 10:21 PM

The authoritarians (autocrats, plutocrats, dictats) all want an unthinking population.

A liberal or open-minded education is threatening to their ability to establish their complete rule.

The GOP is a supposed democratically elected group of people but is, in reality, a very controlled subset that will accept control from some leader.

I don't doubt they will attempt some tepid rebranding, to distance themselves a little from the Trump Coup Attempt. But, they should not be allowed to get away with it.
