I lived there back in the 70s. What happened to them?

9. My oldest brother lived in Colorado Springs years ago.
He had NO IDEA it would be so politically insane when he accepted a job there.
I visited him a few times, and he'd show me local political cartoons while asking, "Is this funny at all, or even make ANY sense?! Seriously, can YOU figure out what it even means?!" Me: "Nope." |

Last edited Wed Jan 13, 2021, 02:31 PM - Edit history (1) with the added problem of, as was mentioned above, the christofascists, and the altitude. El Paso county is roughly one third registered pukes, one third Dems, one third independents. Wild West mentality. Think the Sagebrush Rebellion.
I am fortunate to live in a bluer area, but, alas, doug lamborn has this district. One of the seditionists. |

21. Yes, unfortunately. Referred to locally as "fungus on the family", or "focus on fascism".
And home to a number of mega-churches and assorted whackos.

19. He was there in the 80's. Worked at Honeywell and later...
... at Cray Computer (supercomputers) before returning to Ohio. He could easily walk/jog to and from his job at Honeywell.
He loved hiking in the mountains, snow skiing, etc. Loved Boulder and other cities in Colorado. He didn't miss the political majority at Colorado Springs at all, though. I've seen much more recent reports of bullying that happens at the AF Academy, with everyone pressured to accept evangelical Christian beliefs. Ugh. Edit: He correctly predicted that Cray's new technology ideas for the fastest supercomputer was never going to work, so that work experience made him unhappy too. He and his wife traveled around the country for awhile after he quit, and he said there were two men who were obviously spying on them. Not paranoia from him. He had learned a bunch of "top secret" information there, so he wasn't shocked by it. The guys stopped tailing them from a distance eventually, as he expected. |

24. The area itself is beautiful. But things like Amendment 2 drove out the tech industry. Military is,
Obviously, a major employer. So was tourism, til the trumplague. A very mixed bag.

27. Yeah, his previous "clearance" from Wright-Patt AFB...
... was another factor in his job offers out there.
He left to work for Cray Computer while trying to break free from his previous weaponry work, which he had pretty much "fell into" earlier for an income, but the stubbornness there was even more upsetting to him. Edit: He said that Seymour Cray behaved like an emotionless android. |

6. Can you elaborate, or share a link?
Yes that is a stupid and crazy thing to say. It certainly is also very typical for a conservative, especially an extremist like Buck, to say something stupid like that. What was his (for lack of a better word) reasoning behind the statement. Did Buck give any semblance of an explanation for why it was President Obama's fault, the DNC, the FBI?

He added in Hillary and Hollywood as causes of the mob attack too. |

14. No problem.
Yes, it is Hollywood and Hillary. I saw Madonna was in there for some reason in another post.
It isn't the idea that these nut bags are listening to right wing media 24 hours a day TELLING them that Hollywood, Hillary, Cookie Monster, etc... are ruining their lives. No introspection, no goddamned sense. They say, "people are angry" YEAH IDIOTS, when you are constantly lying to them and telling them that the election was stolen, when it clearly was not, and you are blaming immigrants and gay people and Democrats are radical communists, they are going to be angry. NOW, are they justified in being angry? Not for the reasons they are being fed. They should be angry that the Wealthiest people in the country (and abroad) can so easily influence right wing politicians into lying and creating a whole media ecosystem that feeds lies constantly. Who really has the power to make life miserable, a poor desperate person from Guatemala coming to the US at the invitation of meat packing companies, OR a billionaire who owns large stakes in media companies who is advocating that our share of taxes is twice the rate he pays? |
