MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A Shelby County Schools principal is on administrative leave because of controversial comments made during morning announcements.
The district confirms Cordova High Principal Barton Thorne is on paid leave while his comments are under review.
In a recording obtained by WMC Action News 5, Thorne speaks to students and staff about freedom of speech after major social media platforms removed or blocked posts from President Donald Trump.
Thorne drew comparisons to the Branch Davidian standoff in Waco, Texas as an example of a group being singled out for their beliefs.
