LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas National Guard is sending 500 soldiers and airmen to Washington to assist with security for President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration. The guard on Thursday said Gov. Asa Hutchinson approved the mission.

The deployment begins on January 17 and the guardsmen are set to return to Arkansas before the end of the month.

The Mississippi National Guard is also sending troops to Washington D. C. for the presidential inauguration. Republican Gov. Tate Reeves' press secretary, Bailey Martin, said the governor told the Mississippi National Guard to send troops if necessary "even before the riots at the Capitol last week."

You just assume some people from certain states are traitors, right?

Funny how much crap I see coming out of the Michigan “militia” and the other Midwest states, never you mind all the northwest states.

Wow.

...to have National Guard that share the beliefs of the voters of those states.

Not saying that all Guard from red states are seditionists, or that no Guard from blue states might be, but...it really only takes one trained sniper from 500 yards or so away to take out anyone at that event, including anyone in the line of succession. Frankly, I like to minimize the odds of that happening.

But this deployment is dubious on a lot of levels.

I doubt any nat guard unit would turn and fire in the wrong direction on command, but individual guard members are just people from communities. They aren't vetted for political beliefs.

Just ask sadat how it can turn out......

Net/net, not a lot has changed since 1/6. The same chain of command that refused to deploy the guard then is still in place. Only a couple of capitol police chiefs have resigned, but not the asshat they reported to.

everyone on the platform will be installed last minute. The Secret Service certainly would not make that public before erecting it, but Biden and Harris would know about such plans. So if they are ok with going ahead, so am I.

Personally, I'd be very leery about NG from deep-red states -- I'm guessing that white supremacists and neo-Nazis would find it far easier to implant themselves in such units. At the very least, I hope they're assigned to positions around D.C. far from the President-elect.

The Coronavirus has clipped my wings a bit in terms of getting around. But what I know is that I am far more likely to see Blacks and Whites living side by side here in the South that I am anywhere else, except maybe Arizona and the Pacific Coast. The only thing that restricts people in many parts of the South is income, there are exceptions where Whites have tried to set up “exclusive” enclaves where only they can live, but there isn’t any more than there is in other parts of the country.

But in the same drive 99% of the vehicles don’t have that crap on them. So, it boils down to how sensitive a person is about that type of stuff, as a native born Black southerner, I just ignore the confederate morons, they stick out like skunks at a garden party.

I should respond to each of the posts above complaining about assuming that military personnel cannot be trusted simply because of from where they come.
