I think much of what James Comey has been doing over the last few years is more about James Comey trying to protect himself than Comey really believing that Donald Trump should not be impeached, or that Joe Biden should pardon Donald Trump. During the first impeachment process Comey came out against impeachment. He said he believed impeachment would let the American people off the hook and that the American people should forced to make a decision on Donald Trump. I believe Comey was lying. I believe Comey's real reason for not wanting Trump impeached was that Trump getting impeached would be a mark against Comey and what he did in the closing days of the 2016 election. Maybe Comey's announcement just days before the election did not actually change the result of the election; however, there are some who think that if Comey had not made his announcement just days before the election Hillary Clinton would have gone on to win the election.
It is not just that Trump won the election; it is everything that happened after he won the election. Everything Hillary Clinton and other Trump critics said about him turned out to be accurate. Not only was what his critics said about him proven to be accurate, it could be argued that Trump turned out to be even worse than his critics claimed. All of that goes on Comey. There is a chance that if Comey had just kept his mouth shut Hillary Clinton would have won the election and none of what happened over the last four years would have happened.
Now we come to Comey suggesting Donald Trump should be pardoned. I think Comey really wants Trump to be pardoned so that Comey can, in a way, be pardoned. If Trump is pardoned then Comey's actions before the election are pardoned. If Trump is not pardoned then Comey's actions before the election are not pardoned.
