Parler is back online now by routing 100% of its user traffic through servers located within the Russian Federation.

Raise your hand if you understand the very significant impact this has on the ability to surveil and target insurrectionists who organize on Parler.

Previously, the FBI could obtain a warrant and get detailed information on the participants. Given what I heard was on Parler, a warrant was easy peasy and certainly had been issued (although we'll probably never know for sure)

Now it has to be done via covert means and they cannot require cooperation. Essentially moving this from the realm of the FBI to the NSA and CIA.

I don't know how Parler is built. But if it is done with strong encryption, its probably a net loss for surveillance and investigation. Warrants are easy. Cracking encryption on foreign soil is difficult.

The FBI can monitor DU and everyone on it much much more closely than it can the folks on Parler.

I don't think that is a good development.
