(102,200 posts)He has to know that to reveal self-pardon or those of family would incite even Republicans trying him in impeachment, so he has every reason NOT to do so publicly.
MSM is late to recognize this as a very real issue.

(61,692 posts)Fifth Amendment protection to those he pardons. He doesn't want them testifying against him, and would rather let them go through hell first.

(4,575 posts)Murder 10 people on last day in office. Issue pardon to self.
This is surely not constitutional.

(31,970 posts)Even in your example. And what if a POTUS murders 10 people, resigns, and the VP elevated to POTUS issues a pardon? Are you saying that would not be unconstitutional?

(4,575 posts)but I hope if an actual incident occurred when a president committed a serious crime and pardoned himself, the USSC would find an implied limitation on the pardon power. The founders probably did not intend to let a criminal president pardon himself. Of course, if it's a bunch of republican criminals on the USSC, all bets are off.

(33,112 posts)Do they also prevent Discovery?
Trump has never seemed to be that afraid of Prosecution based on the fact he's never served even a day of time for any conviction in his life. However, I'm guessing he sees the Discovery process as similar to being a 'narc' in exposing other members of his syndicate to evidence for their prosecution. They don't play nice with 'narcs'.

(19,831 posts)...how is a "secret pardon" not obstruction of justice? Prosecutors wouldn't know that a secretly pardoned Ivanka, for instance, could be called and would have to sing like a canary.
