As a Buddhist, Kamala has frequently impressed me with her humor, happiness, and sheer joy, which is not to diminish her seriousness of purpose by any means.
One of the 6 perfections of a Boddhisattva is joyous endeavor, sometimes called enthusiastic perseverance. That's what she shows me, joyous endeavor. I find her quite inspiring. Thank-you Madame VP.

It had to be one of her "selling points" to Biden. It was to me, when I initially supported her in the primaries.

(51,523 posts)She was so charismatic when she was CA AG, showing up for mundane local meetings, smiling and taking pictures with anyone and everyone who wanted a shot with her.. And we all did. Everyone could see back then we would not have her for long, that she was destined for Washington. Then she became Senator, and then everyone got to know the Kamala us Californians knew.

(3,055 posts)Kemp's got to be shaking in his shoes right now. Unless he's too dumb to realize how much trouble he's in. One of the things that truly warms my heart is how many of those damn fools sold their blackened souls to Trump, and then got royally screwed by him. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch.

I understand they want her in that role - strong arming the Senate on legislative votes.

(2,047 posts)The poster's icon is of the Dalai Lama(!), and Kamala is a Hindi name, though I don't know what Ms. Harris's religious beliefs are. No big - she still has a great smile (the VP, that is - and maybe the OP, too, for all I know!)

(3,055 posts)I was raised Catholic, but it never really "took" In fact, I got chicken pox right before I was supposed to be confirmed. Twice. I used to tease my mom about God trying to send her a message that Catholicism just wasn't going to be my path.
Anyhow, a friend introduced me to Buddhism, and it literally felt like a key fitting into a lock.

(51,523 posts)Here Wikipedia page ssys Harris is a Baptist, holding membership of the Third Baptist Church of San Francisco, a congregation of the American Baptist Churches USA.
From WaPo:
The 55-year-old first-term Democratic senator, whose name means lotus in the Sanskrit language, identifies as a Baptist as an adult and brought another faith into her life in 2014 when she married Douglas Emhoff, a Jewish attorney. Their wedding featured the breaking of a glass, a Jewish tradition, and Harris stepchildren gave her the nickname of Momala, a rhyme with her name that recalls the Yiddish term mamaleh.
Attending Oaklands 23rd Avenue Church of God as a child, Harris said, wed learn about caring for the least of these. And I sang in the choir about how faith combined with determination will always see us through difficult times.
Harris added that her mother also took her and her sister to a Hindu temple to see that all faiths teach us to pursue justice.
While she has not spoken about her faith as frequently as Biden, Harris at times invoked biblical values during her Democratic presidential primary bid, which ended last year. During remarks at a forum hosted by the Poor Peoples Campaign, a national effort to combat poverty co-chaired by the Rev. William Barber, Harris pointed to the parable of the Good Samaritan as a guidepost.

On Jan. 20, 2021, Kamala Harris made history as the first female, African American, and Asian American Vice President of the United States. Naturally, plenty of people are interested in Harris and her background.
With prayer being a part of Inauguration Day, you're not the only one wondering about Harris religion. Is she Catholic, like President Joe Biden, or something different? Heres what you need to know about the new Vice Presidents religion.
Kamala Harris is Baptist.
The VP said in an October interview with Interfaith Youth Core that her "faith journey" started when she was young. "On Sundays, my mother would dress my sister, Maya, and me in our Sunday best and send us off to the 23rd Avenue Church of God in Oakland, California, where Maya and I sang in the childrens choir," Harris told the publication. "Thats where I formed some of my earliest memories of the Bibles teachings. Its where I learned that faith is a verb and that we must live it, and show it, in action."

(10,252 posts)The 6 perfections of a Boddhisattva are
Generosity
Discipline (ethical morality)
Patience (for when we have to deal with people, who lack self discipline)
Joyous endeavor (enthusiastic perseverance)
Mental focus (meditation)
Wisdom (seeing how things really exist and responding appropriately)
Personally, I'm working on practicing patience, because it's the antidote to anger. You know the old joke about how do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, baby, practice.
WhiteTara

(235 posts)But I also love how when she means business - SHE MEANS BIZ-NESS!! That is why when Joe selected her for VP, the only reason I was a little disappointed, was that she would not be able to be AG, which would have struck even more fear into those Chumps out there - not that Merrick won't do the job - Just think Kamala would have been perfect there.
She seems the perfect VP too, so I am still incredibly happy
She is great!
