Joe Manchin concerned re Covid Bill $$ amounts, but
In the press conference today it was noted that the FIRST state to receive a FEMA VACCINATION CENTER IS GOING TO BE, you guessed it, West Virginia.
Hell, by the end of summer Joe will get six lane highways running all over the state to the FEMA Center. But he is CONCERNED. about all that money being proposed.

and give him the credit. It's pennies in the overall scheme of things.

Or people, I don't mean corporations my friend. I want him to prove to the red state voters, DEMOCRATIC POLICIES work for everyone, and the only way to do that is get the policies implemented when people need them. This will prove who is working for them.

I think he'll continue to play the "poor me in the 'red state'" card as long as he can get away with it.
Yes, deliver the goods to those that need (as EVERY government worker should be doing) - but don't hold your vote back to gain more power. Instead of working to convince US why we need HIM (and threatening to withhold votes), HE should be busy convincing W.VA why THEY need him (by promising votes from US!). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

better informed, made to see what is truly in their best interests.
He should be doing it. He's got an edge right now as a Dem senator in a red state. But if he won't, I guess we (with help from Stacy Abrams!) will have to! I think it's just laziness on his part. |

What is Stacy Abrams, or anyone else going to do?
One democrat can hold a senate seat in WV and its Joe Manchin. Nobody else has a snowballs chance in hell. But I'm sure your plan to come tell all the poor ignorant country bumpkins about whats best for them will go over really well. |

21. Amen & Agree ....
Manchin is a first class ASSHOLE.
Look at Georgia: BLUE and as you said a Jewish & African-American senators who helped Dems win the Senate. But then again, I have several friends from WV, and they tell me that that state is so far in the stone age due to opioid usage and the fact that people are so demoralized that voting isn't on their radar. That's friends from there telling me this. I haven't a clue. |

33. There isn't voter suppression
Its people choosing not to vote. WV doesn't have photo ID laws, lines are short and there are lots of polling locations. Early voting runs for a couple weeks beforehand and this year there was easy absentee voting, and thats likely to stay.
Republicans don't try to suppress voting here because they arent worried about those votes going against them. Abrams doesn't have a magic wand. She had a plan to address specific problems im a state she was very familiar with. WV doesn't have those same circumstances. Increase turnout and you'll increase republican votes. Really, this is like suggesting Republicans are going to win Hawaii. |

But it seems people keep saying there's no way a Democrat can get elected there, yet one did.
I doubt Joe Manchin is the only Democrat on the planet who can get elected there. We should at least be grooming a younger version of him. He won't live forever. |

31. The younger versions
Of him are all seeing an easier path on the republican side.
WV is very white and very old. There are no real urban areas. The biggest cities are ~50k people. Younger people who get educated usually move away. Jim Justice won as a Democrat, but then immediately becamse a republican. He and Manchin could win because their names are well known. They transcended party. Nobody else has that, so those races just default to whoever has the R. |

we don't have "other things" to be thinking about, but read (or scan) through the article from almost 5 years ago and see if you can find some "commonalities" - who's 'complaining' - who's 'defending' - and the topic at hand.

35. Manchin clearly mischaracterized STIMULUS as some sort of handout for the poors
...and he's eager to get to 'infrastructure' because he's one of the first states to have their hand out at highway and construction appropriation time.
And think about that. All of the federal facilities Byrd based in WVa. didn't make his constituents any less poor. Neither will the Covid relief money he's anticipating steering to corporations and developers in his state. |

36. My earlier point
Link to tweet ?s=19 It's about the voters. The constituents. Their reps will do what is necessary to get elected or reelected. And if voters are making bad choices, they may need help in the form of info. Also, get out the recalcitrant progressives. Ref. Stacy Abrams. |
