Grape-Nuts cereal, the supermarket mainstay that is made of neither grapes nor nuts, beloved by some and hated by others, has become hard to find.Supply-chain constraints and higher demand for the cereal amid the pandemic have led to shortages of the product, Kristin DeRock, Grape-Nuts brand manager for the cereal company Post Consumer Brands, said in a statement on Friday.
Grape-Nuts is made using a proprietary technology and a production process that isnt easily replicated, which has made it more difficult to shift production to meet demand during this time, she said, without elaborating on that technology or process. She said that the company was working to get Grape-Nuts fully back on store shelves, which we expect to be this spring.

Some hungry customers, foiled in grocery stores, tried the internet to search for the product, only to find that prices could be far above normal. Grape-Nuts said the manufacturer-suggested retail price for a 29-ounce box is $4.99.
On Amazon, one pack of four boxes, each 29 ounces, was listed for $59.99 Friday afternoon. On eBay, a similar pack of two boxes was available for $55. And on Walmart.com, a 64 ounce box was listed for $110.

(64,427 posts)I like them too, but what kind of idiocy would it take to pay $110 for a box of cereal?
They're good, but not THAT good!
If Post drops them for low volume, they'll be a private label manufacturer grabbing it & running because there is a set market with no name brand competition.
It's not like they're going away.
$110 a box? Dumb!

(2,375 posts)I like the super crunch - I put some raisins in mine.
They do give my jaw a workout, but then I'm more satisfied and feel fuller - like I really really ATE something.

(7,407 posts)I put a lid full of Mr. Clean antibacterial cleaner in the toilet and scrub the toilet with the toilet brush. I let it sit for 20 minutes and give it another good scrub and flush it. The lid is tiny and I believe that 1 lid full is plenty to use to clean the toilet.
White vinegar and baking soda can be used to clean the toilet as well. These items are inexpensive and can clean much more items in the home.

(7,407 posts)Some years ago I had switched from regular toilet cleaner to eco friendly toilet cleaners. I eventually found it's less waste and less expensive to use a multi-purpose cleaner for several of my house keeping duties.

(58,440 posts)Unlike the folks above, I like Grape Nuts. It's a good source of fiber and I can sweeten to taste. But the last few times in the stores I haven't been able to get any. Even my local Wally World, who sells the larger boxes at a decent price hasn't had any.
Sux. I figure it's the stupid Trumpista, revolutionary, end-timers have been hoarding it.

(7,496 posts)With a little bit of sugar and warmed in the microwave with milk which softens it slightly, it was delicious comfort food - like oatmeal with better flavor and texture.

(12,581 posts)Also with farina (Cream of Wheat). Both were served with about half a cup of either fresh seasonal berries ( The strawberries were diced) or apples along with their honey syrup and whipped cream.
They also had oatmeal raisin pancakes with an orange honey syrup.
All good. Too bad when the original owners decided to retire, the group of local "All-American Breakfast Houses" that took over got rid of all the variety recepies for their standard diner fare. I understand their cost-savings supply requirements due to being a chain (even if local), but still - those grape-nut hotcakes with fresh strawberries on a cool, rainy spring weekend morning (and yes. It does rain in the spring in San Diego) hit the spot.
