Now we can see why Speaker Pelosi held back the article of impeachment until Senate Dems took over

Last edited Tue Feb 9, 2021, 07:44 PM - Edit history (1)

Today was a master class in skill and preparation. And we would have seen none of that had Pelosi allowed Mitch McConnell to get his hands on the article of impeachment while he controlled the majority.

Fast and strong is often the way to go. But just as often, deliberate, thoughtful, and stronger is even better.

6. Dissing this woman always reveals the fools they are

And yes, that goes for our Democratic leaders across the board as well.

When all they have is a game of character assassination to advance themselves then the disgrace is on them.

4. She never makes a move if she doesn't have the votes

That's been the story of her success as long as she's held her Speakership.
And it's about as simple a strategy as it gets.

Count the Votes. Know when to hold em'.
She plays the long game

(Because she knew Mitch wouldn't have allowed it.)

Speaker Nancy Pelosi

47. Madam Speaker turned 80 and yet she looks very stylish and cool

with her shades and red coat.

Nancy Pelosi draws so much scorn and derision from the Trump and the righties because they KNOW she knows her stuff and won't take or be intimidated by their B.S.

I am glad Pelosi is the Speaker of the House again!

Biden are in a similar spot. They are the only two who could pull us through this shit and not sink the ship or stumble in the effort. With their institutional knowledge and skill sets, they are saving the country, they are the leaders for the time.

12. It's been like watching a whole different Democratic party

For my entire life I've watched Dem Presidents and Congresses play Charlie Brown to the Republicans' Lucy, timidly trying to get a shot at the football even after it's been clear for generations that the other side is only interested in their annihilation. Biden had a ringside seat for this show for eight years as VP, and Grandpa ain't taking it any more. Pelosi never did. Schumer has enough of Mitch's knives sticking out of his back to attract a female porcupine. And they've all finally had it. It's like watching the final scene of Back to the Future where Marty returns to 1985 to find his father has grown a spine and is Biff's boss now. I wonder if I should see what's in the garage now.

13. What would have McConnell done differently?

I am curious of your opinion as to how him being the leader would have affected the 5 GOP members who voted to have the trial?

19. They voted yes today, but I have no doubt they would have voted with McConnell

if he were still Majority Leader and the GOP still had the majority.

He would either have pushed through a dismissal or rushed a short trial with no witnesses and little room for the House managers to maneuver and they would have acquitted Trump before he left office.

21. I don't thnk he would have changed the minds of Sasse and Romney.

I am not sure he would have reached Collins, Murkowski, or Toomey, either. I am not sure McConnell would have tried. McConnell may not want the trial, but he doesn't want the GOP and his legacy tied to Trump, either.

22. He may or may not - but that wouldn't have mattered

Even if he didn't get them and manage to get a majority vote on a motion to dismiss, he would have rushed a trial and gotten an acquittal since there would not have been a 2/3 majority for conviction.

McConnell has demonstrated that he doesn't give two hoots about his or the GOP's legacy.

36. If the GOP chooses to let a seditionist get a pass, that's on them

I may still happen. If it does, the Democrats can run on patriotism. The general public wants him convicted. If the GOP prefer to take the side of 28% of those polled, I would think we should let them.

25. He told Pelosi he wouldn't start a trial until after the Inauguration

But some people were pushing her to call his bluff and send the article over anyway - remember all of the "DO IT NOW!!!" demands? I have no doubt that, had she sent it over, McConnell would have "changed his mind," brought the Senate back into session and disposed of the impeachment trial before Democrats took over. But Pelosi was too smart for that. She knew not to let it out of her hands until Democrats were fully in control.

27. If there were term limits Nancy Pelosi would had been gone long time ago.

And few if any of the House Democrats would know or understand how to manage this.

Sure there are members of Congress that we think should be gone. But the problem are the idiots that vote and don't know what they are doing. Some of them should be term limited.
