Welcome, Truthseekers, to my nightmare . . . . . the never-ending primaries trudge along as America is held hostage yet another week. Hopefully some of the clowns will crawl back into their barrels after this one so there are fewer Neocon interviews on the teevee screens.
Sadly, Newt’s not likely to pick up his cheeseburgers and go home. Not yet. He just received a check fat enough to rival his wallet and stretch pants from billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson, who loves loves loves Newt’s support of Israel. Not the United Stated, but Israel. Newt, who solves the Mideast dilemma by flatly stating that Palestine simply doesn’t exist, and therefore the is no such “thing” (his term) as a Palestinian, happily accepted $5 million (!) from Shelly who also believes that 20 million people literally do not exist.
The New York Times put it this way: “The last-minute injection underscores how the 2010 landmark Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance has made it possible for a wealthy individual to influence an election. Mr. Adelson’s contribution to the super PAC is 1,000 times the $5,000 he could legally give directly to Mr. Gingrich’s campaign this year.”
Take that, Mittens. Newt can spend big $$ to buy an election, too! Somebody else’s money, but who cares!
The Times continues:
Mr. Adelson’s company, Las Vegas Sands, also faces a federal investigation for possible violations of a federal antibribery law, relating to operations in the Chinese gambling district of Macau, the company acknowledged last year. The company has said the investigation stems from the allegations of a disgruntled former employee.
The aid is also likely to intensify public scrutiny of Mr. Adelson, 78, who has invested millions of dollars in conservative causes over the years but prefers to keep his political activities private.
The relationship between Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Adelson dates to the mid-1990s and first centered on their common animosity for labor unions. Several people with knowledge of Mr. Adelson’s decision to donate to Winning Our Future said that it was born out of a two-decade friendship with Mr. Gingrich, his advocacy on behalf of Israel and his turbulent months as a presidential candidate.
Romney or Newt can buy the nomination, with ease. Has America given up completely on even the pretense of free and fair elections? How filthy and corrupt does the system have to get until we finally realize it is broken beyond repair?
