of trump inciting violence over the years from those attending his rallies. Mute button's going to get another workout today.

eta - Raskin showing how trump's rhetoric whipped up the situation in MI, leading to 'militias' in the MI state house. One screams 'Heil Hitler' and the crowd eventually screams 'Lock her up!' Raskin calls it a dress rehearsal for what eventually happened at the US Capitol, noting trump praises the rioters and berates Whitmer. This happened twice.

eta 2 - Oct 08: 13 men charged in plot to kidnap MI Gov. Gretchen Whitner. They planned to kill her.

It shows how responsible trump was in manipulating people to act on his wishes. It makes it obvious that the crowd screaming, "Hang Mike Pence" was deadly serious. It shows how his tweeting about Pence during the riot was not a mistake and likely was intended to get a certain result.

Relieved to see house managers bringing up drumpf's 2015 incitements to violence at his rallies.

This has been PROGRAMMING of long duration.

He didn't NEED to tell the Jan. 6 rioters what his expectations were; he'd been grooming them since at least 2015.

In fact, I believe this is the strategy: plausible deniability. That is, some reptilian, sociopathic, narcissistic awareness of the danger TO HIMSELF in using incendiary words of physical violence immediately precipitory to the 1/6 attack. He didn't need to. Like Michael Cohen said .... his supporters and sycophants know what he means. Why? He'd been grooming them, programming them, for years ...

***********

Wish the managers would use the words grooming, programming. Maybe we will hear it.

not just Congressional reps and their staff. This is the one point in the proceedings where the lack of witnesses is a problem. They couldn't call everyone, still it would be much more powerful to hear a few of them tell their stories in person rather than hear Cicilline recount their words or stand listening to their disembodied voices. It won't make or break the case, but it's the one time the lack of witness testimony has stood out for me.

DC Guard Chief 'Deeply Troubled' After Nearly 200 Troops Test Positive for COVID-19

25 Jan 2021
Military.com | By Gina Harkins
Coronavirus cases have jumped nearly fivefold over the last 10 days among troops deployed from across the country to the nation's capital, military officials said on Monday.

Almost 200 National Guard members have tested positive for COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus, said Maj. Gen. William Walker, commander of the District of Columbia National Guard.

Police union says 140 officers injured in Capitol riot

Add to list
The physical toll on officers who defended the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 attack by a pro-Trump mob is becoming clearer, with reports by police officials and federal prosecutors indicating that about 140 officers were injured, the head of the Capitol Police officers’ union said.

“I have officers who were not issued helmets prior to the attack who have sustained head injuries,” Gus Papathanasiou, union chairman, said in a statement Wednesday. “One officer has two cracked ribs and two smashed spinal discs and another was stabbed with a metal fence stake, to name some of the injuries.”

Black Police Officers Describe The Racist Attacks They Faced As They Protected The Capitol

Two Black officers told BuzzFeed News that their chief and other upper management left them totally unprepared and were nowhere to be found on the day.

The first glimpse of the deadly tragedy that was about to unfold came at 9 a.m. on the morning of the insurrection for one Black veteran of the US Capitol Police. But it didn’t come from his superiors — instead the officer had to rely on a screenshot from Instagram sent to him by a friend.

“I found out what they were planning when a friend of mine screenshot me an Instagram story from the Proud Boys saying, ‘We’re breaching the Capitol today, guys. I hope y’all ready.’” The officer, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation from his superiors, told BuzzFeed News that it was just a sign of the chaos that was to come, which saw officers regularly finding themselves unprepared and then outmanned and overpowered by the mob.

-snip-

“I sat down with one of my buddies, another Black guy, and tears just started streaming down my face,” he said. “I said, ‘What the fuck, man? Is this America? What the fuck just happened? I’m so sick and tired of this shit.’”
