Tennessee Lawmakers Introduce Bill To Allow Fathers To Veto Abortions

A bill introduced in the Tennessee General Assembly this week would allow a man who gets a woman pregnant to request an injunction barring her from having an abortion.

The legislation, SB0494 in the Senate and HB1079 in the House, would require a court hearing to be held within 14 days of a petition being filed by the individual seeking an injunction.

At the hearing, if the man can prove that he is the biological father and that there is a “reasonable probability” that the woman would obtain an abortion, the court shall issue an injunction prohibiting her from terminating the pregnancy. Proof of parenthood requires only that the petitioner acknowledges paternity. A DNA test is not required.

If the woman violates the injunction by obtaining an abortion, the court may hold her in civil or criminal contempt. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.

Emphasis mine

Of course this will not and cannot stand. These would be stealers of female agency will ultimately fail in these endeavours, but this theocratic patriarchal BS has to stop. Where have we seen this before? Oh. Wait.

Weaponised belief
Though set during the English civil war, Witchfinder General is chiefly a film about belief, or at least the harnessing of belief’s power in order to fulfil other terrible needs and desires. If its political message could be boiled down to one idea, it would be that belief can allow and excuse the most alarming of atrocities.

Emphasis mine

Same mindset - centuries apart. Punishing women takes them to their sadistic happy place.
And not even an exemption for rape or incest. These fuckers think of rape as a punishment for women putting themselves in harms way, the she was asking for it schtick and that children are owned by the head of the far right religious cray cray household.. Can you imagine having to be a woman around these awful people... I think I would request the ducking stool just to get away from them 👀

1. Now all that's needed...

Is Tennessee lawmakers introducing another bill requiring Cialis and Viagra to be dispensed to MARRIED men only, and only with a note permitting it from their WIVES, and available only after attending a MANDATORY CLASS in family planning and birth control.

Further...only one pharmacy per state may dispense same and the obligatory running of the gauntlet of taunting pro-choice peeps must be successfully completed.

Fair enough?

Tennessee legislators are in a singularly unthinking, hypocritical and disgraceful class of their very own.

2. Does the same bill make men financially responsible for the child from inception to adulthood?

36. no. im not suggesting it would be ok. what im pointing out is

they are quick to heap responsibilities and take control of a womans life but totally absent when it comes to putting any accountability or responsibility on the man.

its some serious handmaids tale bullshit.

33. Yes, would the woman be ordered to pay child support

after being forced to give birth?

Though men are, even if they did not want the child.

38. they go there but not all the way there. if they are going to legislate a child be born then

they should also legislate the childs care.
both parents responsible. support if only one raises the child. from inception to adulthood.
and they should take state responsibility for the childs healthcare and preschool.

of course they wont do that because they are cynical male-domination promoting bastards.

And it's very difficult to prove rape.

It takes a VERY invasive medical procedure to prove fraternity during a pregnancy.

W/O proof, every tom, dick, and hairy could stop ANY abortion.

16. Well, it puts an injunction in place. A person can either follow the injunction or ignore it and get

an abortion anyway, and then face the penalties (charging with civil or criminal contempt) if they're found out.

What happens then?

There are too many loopholes to wiggle through for this bill to fly.

31. I like your thinking here ... but I don't think there's going to be consideration

for anyone wanting there to be an abortion.

The whole point is to prevent women from getting them.

I'd presume that the way they'd write the bill is that all it takes is some random dude to say he's the dad and doesn't want to allow the woman to exercise choice, and that's that.

If it make you feel any better, I rather doubt this will ever become law.

What if there are two or more claimants?

The court would have to find a way to resolve that.

Nitpicking, I know, but you're not a "father" until the baby is born. What does a husband say when he learns his wife is pregnant? "I'm going to be a father!"
