since they don't seem to recognize that his name now conveys someone who promotes violent sedition through lies, backstabbing his own VP, putting Pence's life in danger, all in an attempt to cheat his way to an election he lost. They would probably be honored by the appellation until they subsequently realize what connotation it will eventually have for the general public.

(833 posts)To me, he's sub-human, a non person. He's beneath the dignity required for me to use his name; he's beneath contempt. He's just beneath.

(115,681 posts)Benedict Arnold was a skilled officer who fought courageously against the British until he was seriously wounded and later passed over for promotion. After he suffered various other setbacks, including a court-martial and serious financial losses, he went over to the other side. His treason ultimately arose from his thwarted ambition and a sense of grievance - in other words, a shitty personality. While this also describes Graham, Cruz, et al., it doesn't take into consideration the magnitude of their support of sedition. I'd argue that Quisling is a better analogy - Quisling collaborated with an enemy in order to actively assist them in the takeover of his country. Isn't that what the Trump collaborators tried to do?

(5,443 posts)and indeed Cruz, Graham, Howley are Trump collaborators.
But my suggestion is not to use Arnold as the appellation, but Trump himself-- since Trump's behavior provides the best analogy of all for theirs-- and no doubt they would seek to emulate him if they should somehow get elected President.
