If anyone in an area around Marble falls needs a hand or some groceries or blankets or medication delivery I can get around very well with our Freestyle.
EDIT: WEDNESDAY MORNING: first the good news - it was 30F when I got up!
Now the bad: I abou - power went out about twenty minutes -t went down the steps in a bad way going to feed the cats. We have a SLIPPERY thick ice on everything. I am stuck here for now.
One more piece of good news: Gov Abbott is getting the blame heaped on him. Rightly or not, it pleases me.

(46,426 posts)You are taking care of that baby.
PS, if you are not used to driving in the snow and ice, be careful.
Drive slower than normal if the roads are not clear.
I don't know if you have snow plows and salt trucks in your area.

(56,996 posts)I drove in snow living in Ohio, Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and I am a good snow driver. The problem here is we have no plows or salt out here, but we had a cold day with a hot sun yesterday and it dried up the roads, the hoar-frost from last night seems to have dried out all ready when I went out to feed the feral cats I care for (You should have seen me making shelters for them three days ago).

You are in good shape.
I can imagine you in snow storm trying to make shelters for the cats.

(3,926 posts)yesterday in case of power outage. Now no water. Granddaughter was called into work today at restaurant! Some restaurants open. Grandson lives north in Magnolia, plans flying Friday to Las Vegas to get married. We'll see. I can't cause vaccines didn't come through. Told kids we've survived to tell the tale of Covid in an ice storm. Stay warm.

(3,926 posts)Our water just came back on. The subdivision caught by surprise cause grandkid says line into Kroger was out the door and down the sidewalk. Water kiosk wouldn't work. She went to CVS for bottled water. We now know to prep for winter storm in TX just like for hurricanes. Wow. The icecream man will be making rounds again next week.

(90,538 posts)Gods know why, but my new county of residence is a black hole for TV coverage, which is important in a region with mass evacuations going on. One guy, a local photographer/artist, started posting useful information along with his photos. He kept it up during a subsequent disaster that almost obliterated a small town. Afterwards, he went back to photos of sunsets over the sea, but the guy was just a lifeline for awhile.
Im not a fan of Facebook because Zuck is a politically ignorant jerk who wont regulate his business model but I think it has potential to be humanly great, if that makes any sense.

(28,756 posts)i have a love/hate relationship with it myself. generally if someone i know is in a disaster area (and I'm from CA so with the fires there have been many instances), a check in page appears for people to check in well so their loved ones know they're okay.
I was trying to remember which site it was where SOS's were going out during a major hurricane within the past few years. I think that may have been twitter though. The OP could probably offer help through one of these threads or hashtags. I bet they're out there.

I begged him to be careful, and he said "Oh, no worries dad. There are hardly ANY cars out since they have not sanded or salted ANY roads near here!"
More days of snow and below freezing temps are forecast.
Stay safe please.

Folks impacted by the severe Artic weather please be very careful. Also, folks keeping warm in vehicles should be careful to clear any piled up snow that could be blocking vehicle exhaust pipes.

Also, use caution if using generators. A number of folks in my state were killed by them during Hurricane Sandy.

(20,131 posts)The last time we had rolling blackouts was in 2011, when Rick Perry was in office. The feds told us our grid was not properly winterized, but they had not enforcement power to get anything done.
