Investigators signal some Capitol riot suspects could be charged with conspiring to overthrow U.S.
government
Federal investigators have signaled some of the defendants in the attack on the U.S. Capitol could be charged with seditious conspiracy, a law enacted to target those who attacked the federal government during the Reconstruction era. An indictment filed on Jan. 27 charges three of the riot suspects with conspiring to impede Congress' certification of the Electoral College vote for the 2020 presidential election. The filing alleges those three are members of the Oath Keepers, "a loosely organized collection of militia who believe that the federal government has been co-opted by a shadowy conspiracy that is trying to strip Americans of their rights." Friday, prosecutors added six more suspected Oath Keepers as defendants in that conspiracy case. The indictment alleges that one of the suspects, Florida resident Kelly Meggs, 52, wrote Facebook posts referring to a tweet by then-President Donald Trump about the Jan. 6 protest in Washington, D.C. "Trump said It's gonna be wild!!!!!!! It's gonna be wild!!!!!!! He wants us to make it WILD that's what he's saying," Meggs wrote, according to the indictment. "He called us all to the Capitol and wants us to make it wild!!! Sir Yes Sir!!! Gentlemen we are heading to DC pack your s---!!" https://www.yahoo.com/news/oath-keepers-charges-could-feds-222951184.html

16. I don't understand this comment.
Evangelist Isis Oathers? What are you talking about?
This is perfectly straightforward article, about a very serious topic (people trying to overthrow our government). Nobody is kidding about anything. ![]() |

I found your post to be bafflingly cryptic is all.
I still don't understand the part about joking, but I don't feel like I necessarily need to. ![]() |

3. Investigate, indite, charge, try, convict and incarcerate
Don’t be afraid to throw away the key. Armed insurrection against the United States by domestic terrorists should be dealt with severely.

6. Wouldn't this be a capital offense? If convicted, the maximum sentence should be handed down.

8. I think the charge is actually Seditious Conspiracy
Punishable by Twenty years but with the other charges around it, they could be looking at a lot longer. Add on Felony Murder 3 counts, I don’t think the suicides would make it into the charging, and the light of day is gone.

5. Reading this has given me a little bit of optimism for DJT's prospects
Behind Bars for the Rest of His Life.
It seems as though the FBI is just now discovering laws related to the conspiracy and attempt to overthrow our government are already on the books. Could it be the lawsuit the NAACP is bringing might have clued them in? Perhaps. Or perhaps they knew, but just didn't want to deal with the facts in this way before now. Seems like something changed, finally. Perhaps. If so, I might risk feeling optimistic about DJT finally getting his just deserts sooner rather than never. |

9. I think tRump opened the door, invited them in, but he can claim innocence
when it comes to their actual motive which was/is overthrowing the US Govt. That's always been the Oath Keeper's Deal. tRump is an ignorant fool. A child playing with matches in a fireworks store. He should be held responsible but I'm thinking his pure ignorance of their true motives might just keep him out of prison. That's not even considering we've never punished an ex-president in any way shape or form so this would be a more difficult case.
It's interesting to contemplate but when considering the law, they'd have to be able to prove he knew their intent in the long run was to destroy our government, not just keep him in office. I feel he is truly so inept, so completely sold on his magnificence, that he cannot see past the end of his nose. He needs to be held accountable for opening that door though. He's not completely innocent by a long shot. This is the DU member formerly known as lettucebe.

21. Justice needs to prevail or we all will lose faith
When Garland takes the helm of the Justice Department I'm expecting him to lead the way to bringing it to fruition. I believe he understands the full depth of depravity and lawlessness that need to be addressed in a truly meaningful way.
At least that is my hope. We shall see. But Justice delayed is Justice denied. And at no other time in history is it more important that Justice needs to prevail in the fullest meaning of the word. imo. |

10. Getting my guess out here. Remember when a message was sent
To air traffic controllers that a plane was gonna crash into the Capitol. It was out-of-the blue and about Iran. Last I checked there were no leads on it and seemed odd to investigators.
My guess - it was the "all systems go" signal to insurrectionists. |

12. Just wait until Garland takes over....
They have not seen anything yet. Maximum sentences for conspiracy for as many as possible. Enjoy 10-20 years in federal prison while Trump golfs and Ivanka/Jared stroll Miami Beach....all with your campaign donations.
Bunch of complete suckers. |

That they want to spin the country back to the Civil War so they should be charged with offences appropriate to the time.

17. OMG! That Jessica Watkins is throwing every defense at the book
"I need to get out of jail because of Coronavirus, I'm part of the Secret Service, I'm transgender...."
I have a friend who has fully transitioned and she requires lots of maintenance in terms of make up etc. It's not cheap. I also have another friend who also wears alot of make up. She still has voice issues. This Jessica Watkins, she's not wearing any make up or anything, she doesn't have money. She looks like a woman. She's not a pretty woman, but she has appears to be a woman. And then she got in trouble for keeping her bar open during coronavirus and now she's worried about coronavirus in jail... Give me a break! These people will say anything!!! |

20. They will try to hide behind a wall of patriotic garbage
I hope the prosecution is ready for it and smashes it to the ground. The Trumpanzees will say they were trying to "save" the country, not overthrow it. The prosecution, I hope, will ask them for a history of "patriotic" actions they have undertaken in the past. When that list turns out to include bringing guns to statehouses to threaten the governor, it should make the defense's arguments gown down the drain fairly quickly.
