This is the sad truth re:Cuomo
He will probably have to resign because Democrats will demand it. And the Democratic Party in NY will suffer because of it. Republicans here will run on how our Democratic Governor was a sexual predator and Dems can't be trusted. That Democrats held someone accountable will be ignored.
On the other hand, no Republican called out Trump for being a much worse sexual predator and rapist, he won the election even after the Access Hollywood tape, and there were no repercussions to the GOP's silence about Trump's behavior. The sad truth is doing the right thing will not be politically advantageous.

17. The NYS lieutenant gov is a woman
Kathy Hochul, from the Buffalo area. She was briefly in Congress, but lost her seat to Chris Collins. So if Cuomo resigns she steps up: whether she can win in a state-wide election is another story.

29. It does NOT have to mean that NY
gets stuck with a GQP governor. Bad behavior from a Dem does not mean a GQP would be a better alternative and we can drive that thought home to the voters. I sure as hell will dedicate myself to it.
I only know of one GQPer who is running for governor in NY in 2022 - Congressman Tom Reed, who was first elected as a Tea Party candidate in 2010. He is vulnerable to attacks on his hypocrisy for saying nothing about the orange fascist, making his attacks on Cuomo meaningless and worthless. I will make sure every NYer knows this. I despise the man. He is a smooth liar with a big, phony smile who pretends to be a moderate now. I have been following his voting record and will be happy to create and spread attacks on him based on his record and his acceptance of the Trump immorality with women, health care, and immigration. He is popular in his district (unfortunately, my district) and is using Buffalo media to report his "press conference" comments to in order to gain name recognition outside of his district in a blue city. Rural and north central NY are red. So we should not underestimate him. We need to trash him and get out the Dem vote for whoever runs against him. We need someone with name recognition, a good record, and the ability to appeal to voters while making Reed look bad. Shouldn't be too hard to make him look bad. His family business is medical debt collection, with a record of complaints about tactics. |

16. Really? I've actually witnesed women sexual predators.
Trust me. It's not just a male thing.. especially when there's celebrity, or money, or position to be had. It's naive to think it doesn't happen when the stakes are high.
I'll wait for Cuomo to have the investigation he requested because That is truly the only just way to handle the accusations. Honestly, every woman who has been a victim should be demanding both sides be heard. Any woman who seeks to be Gov of NY should be holding off her opiniin of the Cuomo issue until both sides are heard. Because THAT is how a fair & just Govenor should treat all people under her care. |

35. There might be more to it
than case building, which is definitely happening. I will wait for the results of investigations on both issues, the nursing homes and the sexual harrassment accusations. But Cuomo himself is now admitting that he made jokes that were "insensitive" and could be "misinterpreted." Does not look good.
He has done a lot for NY. But if the investigations prove wrong doing, he will be pressurred to resign or face impeachment. The pressure will come from Dems in the state as well as the GQP. |

24. Franken was publicly accused by eight women of groping and trying to kiss them. So far, Cuomo
has been accused by fewer women. That will probably change, though.
Franken resigned very quickly - too quickly for many - engendering a lot of sympathy. Cuomo is likely to fight the accusations tooth and nail, creating a lot of animosity in the process. Franken was very well liked by Democratic voters. Cuomo has a lot of political enemies in NY, and the Covid nursing home deaths scandal already has people calling for his resignation. It will be interesting to see this play out. |

11. Why would he resign? NY has no recall. It would take 2/3 of the NY Senate to impeach him.
I don't think 1/2 of the Assembly will vote to impeach, much less 2/3 of the Senate vote to remove him.
Only impeachment and removal of a NY governor was in 1913. How would a Cuomo impeachment work? A look at New York’s process https://www.syracuse.com/state/2021/03/how-would-a-cuomo-impeachment-work-a-look-at-new-yorks-process.html |

13. And a Republican can win in NY.
There are some deluded progressive politicians who think one of them will win it - but NY really is not as progressive as they think. It is a state the relies heavily on business, with a city that is the business capital of the world. It is a state that like any big state can have alot of problems with crime, homelessness etc that many voters don't always agree with progressives on. In the chaos a Repub can win. NY had a fairly popular Republican gov in Pataki for years, and NYC had Repub mayors (Giuliani, Bloomberg) for 20 years straight. So Republicans have proven they know how to capitalize on NY Dem infighting.

21. There you go. ! Stefanik, who defended Trump's 1st impeachment
Is already on this.
Claiming Cuomo is not only a Sexual Preditor but a CRIMNAL! (Yet she defended an actual criminal predator.) Stefanik & 2 other Repubs are readying a run for Gov. And that was before the Cuomo story broke. Tell ya what, this whole thing & the pace at which it's metastasizing is straight up Roger Stone's playbook.. If there's a political sex scandal of the size & pattern of Bill Clinton's , Roger Stone is somewhere in the shadows. And this one is appearing to be much like the pattern of that one. It isn't innocent. It is a political hit. Straight from Roger Stone & the Trump/Guiliani NY mobsters. Thanks. You make the most obvious point to consider. Look at Stefanik go! Man, she's on fire over a "Criminal Sexual Predator" (but not Trump) Elise Stefanik @EliseStefanik · Feb 27 Criminal sexual predators do NOT get to announce their own “review.” Criminal sexual predators do NOT get to appoint who conducts the “investigation.” It is the height of Cuomo corruption and arrogance to expect New Yorkers to accept this. ***** Elise Stefanik @EliseStefanik · Feb 28 Nice try #CorruptCuomo. New Yorkers aren’t stupid. Sexual predator Cuomo digging deeper and deeper into his cesspool of corruption. Criminal sexual predators don’t get to unilaterally select the Judge you appointed to work with the AG to oversee an “independent investigation.” ******* Elise Stefanik @EliseStefanik · 3h The Governor of New York must RESIGN. He is a pervasive criminal sexual predator. ****** She's running for NY Gov 🙄 |

28. Republicans know Democrats will push for their own to resign over this kind of stuff.
So they cook stuff up or embellish and spin and dig and hope Democrats will "helpfully" punish their own so Republicans don't have to get their hands dirty.
And Democrats almost always fall for it, saying they are "doing the right thing." Letting Republicans succeed in this kind of remote character assassination, however, is not "the right thing." =========== |

37. The sad truth about Cuomo is that he turns out to be an egotistical idiot.
There is NO EXCUSE for a man in the last 5 years, post Al Franken, post Harvey Weinstein, post Bill Cosby, and on and on and on, to think a young woman working for him is the appropriate target for sexual banter.
NONE. Andrew Cuomo should have figured this out long ago. It doesn't matter what Trump got away with. That doesn't excuse Cuomo. Democrats actually stand for something, unlike the R's. A long time ago, I was a new college grad working at a company where I had to do projects for multiple VP's. One of them was a sleaze, who couldn't resist saying gross things to me whenever I brought a report to his office. I'd begun to ask a male co-worker to deliver my work for me, just to avoid this guy. Then I got promoted, and I was working directly for the Exec. VP. Soon after I began, I had a chance to share with him my discomfort with The Sleazy Guy. He asked my permission to share this information with others. Days later, an older woman supervisor told me the Exec VP had gone around to all the operating departments, asking if anyone else had had my experience. Then he went to the Sleazy Guy and told him his job was on the line. If he ever made another woman uncomfortable like that again, he was out the door. And that was the end of that. This happened before Anita Hill taught everyone the meaning of the words "Sexual Harassment." All I knew is that the Sleazy Guy at work was saying personal things that made me squirm. And the Exec. VP knew it was wrong, too, and immediately put a stop to it. Why all people haven't figured this out by now that this kind of behavior at work is wrong is beyond me. |
