Johnson & Johnson has planned trials of its Covid vaccine that will include infants (and newborns)

What parent would hand over a newborn for a vaccine trial? Where will they get volunteers - third world countries? Flu vaccines are not even recommended by CDC for babies.

Johnson & Johnson plans to test its coronavirus vaccine in infants and even in newborns, as well as in pregnant women and in people who have compromised immune systems.

The bold plan for expanded clinical trials met with the approval of Dr. Ofer Levy, director of the Precision Vaccines Program at Harvard’s Boston Children’s Hospital and a member of the Food and Drug Administration advisory committee that reviewed the company’s vaccine data.

When Dr. Levy saw the outlines of the planned trials, “they turned my head,” he said. They were reported as part of the company’s application to the F.D.A. for emergency use approval and discussed at the F.D.A. meeting.

“They did not get into a lot of detail about it but did make it clear they will be pursuing pediatric and maternal coronavirus immunization studies,” Dr. Levy said. They referred committee members to their briefing materials where, on page 34, the company mentioned the planned studies.

1. Where will they find "volunteers" for those trials?

I am all for the advancement of science, but I will be damned if my newborn would be the test subject. Maybe I am not as liberal as I thought....

2. My daughter said she would for her 3 year old

He will be 4 and has been home while she and her husband work from home for a year. He can’t go to playgrounds or stores or museums and is used to masks and avoiding people. There are no family parties, only Zoom birthdays. He is enrolled in preschool for the Fall. If it meant he could go without wearing a mask, she’d definitely try the vaccine. I and his other grandparents and his parents are all fully vaccinated (they are teachers) but we can’t take him anywhere. I can’t wait until kids get the vaccine.

3. CDC recommends influenza vaccine for everyone 6 months and older with rare exceptions.

This has been the case for many years now.
