When did we adopt this conservative/authoritarian/Republican chant? It never has set right with me. It seems to have begun its crossover when the right hurled it incessantly at Hillary. Is this who we are?
Justice is absolutely essential. Yet, look at where lock em up is a crippling, social injustice.
Im offering no solutions other than a deeper look into modern, progressive approaches to crime and punishment like those practiced in some Scandinavian nations.
That said, lock em up sounds wrong coming from liberals.

(25,467 posts)Wanting to lock up Trump for myriad legitimate legal violations, including inciting an insurrection, is a little different than wanting to lock Clinton up based on pizza-place conspiracy theories and wishful thinking.

(30,613 posts)Today's Qpublican Party is, sadly, a target-rich environment.
Insurrection is top of mind; Trump and literally hundreds of Congressional Qpublicans have endorsed and likely physically aided and abetted it.
DeJoy vandalized hundreds of millions of dollars worth of postal equipment, crippling our election and our economy.
Stephen Miller and dozens in the Trump Administration have committed crimes against humanity.

(65,001 posts)When the trumpets were chanting that, it was about people over what they imagined were criminals, with no basis in fact.
Around here, the preponderance of those posts are regarding people for whom there is evidence, moderate to incontrovertible, that crimes were indeed committed.

Yea, I know it is not right but sometimes being wrong just feels right.

(6,477 posts)Prison rape jokes are now routinely removed by juries, mainly due to the tireless work of people who simply won't abide them. Thanks to them. They used to be far more common here. The common tactic was to say "I'm just saying what happens, not what I want to happen." It was a cowardly and pathetic dodge.

(47,415 posts)ignorant behavior. In a perverse way, it often reinforces it. Of course, we should continue to demand justice, but that should be done within the system, through the appropriate channels. Yelling the same ignorant cries as the right sounds like a classic lynch mob.
I think that some on the right, take pleasure watching Democrats behave like them. "See! They aren't so holier-than-thou, are they?" It is a classic abuser's tactic to push people's buttons until they come down to the abuser's level.

(19,056 posts)It's not a chant in a vacuum, but rather usually reserved for public people who've chanted lock her up prominently. Roger Stone and Michael Flynn have been seen chanting, "Lock her up, lock her up!" Many times. So when they've been in court/arrested, "lock him up", is just throwing that back at them.
And as far as the Anti American insurrectionists, they are enemies of our democracy, I don't care about them.

(58,785 posts)antagonism, and in some radicalization and hate, are spreading from the extremes to infect the middle. If some seem more like conservatives, it's not at all coincidence -- people typically react to threats by becoming more conservative emotionally.
We're unfortunately seeing more inappropriate acting out here. But then there aren't a whole lot of places to go for people who still support liberal goals even though they've become angry and frustrated with the constraints of liberal democratic principles and methods.
The Democratic Party's where it happens.

(28,254 posts)Anybody I want to see locked up will get the full protection of a judicial trial, probably multiple trials. As a liberal on a liberal site, I shouldn't have to even mention this. And the sooner trump and his goons are behind bars, the happier I'll be---no apologies.

(7,596 posts)Many of the assholes who stormed the Capitol and beat up cops were the same sort of people who chanted LOCK HER UP! for years and years.
Now theyre the ones being locked away for a long-ass time while the woman who was the target of their deranged hatred for so long will continue to enjoy all of lifes freedom. Yes, the irony is absolutely delicious and I am taking immense pleasure in savoring it. Sue me.

Lock every one of them up for a very long time. After a fair trial of course.
