Second shot hit me yesterday. Chills, fever aches, the whole deal! Better today, just a brain fog and hot flashes, no energy. Totally worth it though. Thank you Joe! Look out grandkids, here come Grammy and Papa!

(21,922 posts)About 10 hours after dose #2, I got really sick for about 12 hours then I felt fine.
So glad you're both vaccinated! Enjoy your grandkids.

(7,265 posts)The only thing I experienced was a little fatigue a few hours after the shot. Actually more than just a little, enough for a good nap.
I'm so grateful I haven't experienced any of the other symptoms, but sorry you experienced it. Glad to see you've recovered.

(18,402 posts)Wasnt expecting to, because my sister and brother-in-law didnt. But the fever, chills, aches, etc. subsided after 24-36 hours later.
I think it all depends on your internal chemistry. I kept thinking: this sucks, but it shows my immune system is really kicking in!

(63,771 posts)We are 80 and 81, respectively. We have almost been shut-ins since the pandemic hit. Maybe that has something to do with it...

(26,177 posts)As did my brother and one of my former bosses. One of my cousins got 'covid arm' along with the other after effects. And they all said it was well worth it.
I had absolute no side or after effect from the first Pfizer jab. I get my second on the 18th.

(31,484 posts)My arm was sore, but that went away. If I didn't know what was happening, I would have thought I was coming down with something. Took aspirin, drank fluids and rested.
Today I still feel tired, but the feverish feeling is gone. Spent the night pulling covers up and throwing them off again.
At no time did I feel terrible. The relief I feel far outweighs any discomfort I had.

(36,739 posts)A lot of people who have had the virus react stronger to the first shot. For them, the first shot is a lot like the second for people who have not had the virus.
Either way you are doing the right thing by getting vaccinated!

(1,866 posts)Got Covid tested three days later, and it was neg. Taste and small are still off. I believe that I probably did have it.

(36,739 posts)You got the nasal virus test, not the antibody test I take it?
Good news is you will now have antibodies galore via the vaccines. Second viral infections are far worse than the first, as they are finding in Brazil.

(11,854 posts)Certainly not looking forward to it, but want to get it over with. I had a reaction to the pneumonia shot last year (arm swelled from shoulder to wrist, red itchy rash between shoulder and elbow). Flu shot has always been fine. I'm just coming off a 10-day course of Bactrim for a raging kidney infection, and was on the phone to the medline last night - swollen lymph nodes in neck, a lip that looked like a bad Botox job, and a 99.2 fever). They told me to take 2 Benadryl and monitor. This morning, swelling is down, no fever, but I have a fine red rash over my shoulders, chest, and thighs.
Wish me luck on my first COVID shot on Monday.
Probably shouldn't have scheduled the 2nd on for the day before my B'day....

(9,593 posts)May sound strange but I hope you dont need any luck...cuz itll all be dandy!
Bactrim can be nasty. I got a terrible reaction from it. Ill never take it again,

(14 posts)18 hours later I had tremendous fatigue, a 101 fever, really bad arm pain with swollen lymph nodes and it had triggered my RA. Felt like hell for four days. But I recovered now.

(86 posts)My only reaction was a sore arm at the injection site. Similar to the minor discomfort from a tetanus shot although it lasted a few more days than that. My wife got her second dose of the Pfizer vaccine with not significant reaction. Please, get the shot!

(8,353 posts)After our first Moderna vaccine on 2/8, we both fell asleep and slept for two hours. Our second vaccine was Monday, 3/8. We had sore arms and a few muscle aches the day of and after. A bit of fatigue as well. Now, we're doing fine.
What a fantastic thing science, scientists, researchers, and medical personnel have brought to our society!

(741 posts)I'm 2 weeks from Moderna #2 & I had a terrible reaction to it.
First one, not too bad; sore arm mostly.
2nd one, I am just now recovering from the pneumonia that kicked in a few days after shot #2.
Very hard to explain pneumonia: no sinus trouble, no cold, no flu, tested negative for covid, practically no exposure to anything from anybody in the world, no sickness in the household, no swallowing problems ....
That is/was as bad or worse than a typical covid infection as far as I can tell. I can only hope that this vax keeps me from getting a lung - attacking version of covid or long covid, but as preventative of a typical illness, it was a bust.
So far no one is willing to look deeper into what the cause is (presumably a bacterium ran wild for the actual infection, but who knows). Hoping it will just continue to go away. It's going to be a while for recovery.
I'm telling people to push for the J&J. At least you're only spinning the Russian roulette wheel once with these EUA vaccines.

(2,585 posts)Just wondering. I'm set to get my second Moderna shot next Friday, and it's around 3:30, so that probably means it'll hit me around 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. My husband received his injection of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this past Saturday around 11:00 a.m., and he was awakened by chills, aches, fever - accompanied by actual fever "dreams" or delusions. around two in the morning. Seriously. He had a dream that his bank accounts had been raided and drained, and he actually got up out of bed to go check his account balances. Strangely, I slept straight through it and never knew he'd had reaction until he told me the next morning.

Got it at noon. Didn't feel a thing until midnight. Arm now feels like it was hit by a bat and has a lump.
I goofed. Took the shot in my non-dominant arm forgetting it is the side I sleep on. Whoops!
#2 isn't until April 5. Curious what my reaction is going to be after reading these types of stories. 😀

(4,878 posts)no fever or chills. Just general "I don't feel great". Arm hurt. Middle of night on Thursday I rolled over and my arm no longer hurt and headache all gone. Friday morning felt great. In fact my arm hurt for more days after the first dose. I was pleasantly surprised to feel so good this morning.
Grateful!

(4,832 posts)I'm due for my first Moderna next week. My nurse sister says to stock up on easy fix foods and liquids for a couple of days, and not schedule anything important.

(7,592 posts)Aches, chills and my arm really hurt but I took no Ibuprofen or any pain reliever in case those really do make the vaccine less effective.
I was fine the next day anyway except for minor arm pain.

(1,218 posts)No reaction to the first shots. After the second shots, my husband got some chills and a really sore arm, but that's it. All I had was a very sore arm. Possibly fatigue but I'm low-energy this time of year so might have been normal. Here's an odd thing--I like a martini before dinner every night. Always use the same glass, same amount of ice; I have no effects from it no matter whether I ate a lot that day or have it on an empty stomach. But holy cow--the martini on shot #2 night hit me like a ton of bricks! I was not expecting that!

(12,322 posts)I live in the Keys and havent been to the mainland in a year. We have very few fast food restaurants on my island. Driving up for the shot, I passed a Sonic in Homestead. I hadnt had lunch so I pulled in and got a double burger, onion rings and a strawberry shake with whipped cream. On the way home I noticed that the KrispyKream drive in window was open so I swung over and got a dozen chocolate covered donuts. Not far from there I saw a sign for a Popeyes fried chicken store and decided that once I got home I might be hungry for some comfort food... you know, in case the Covid shot made me feel bad. A bucket along with biscuits and potatoes and gravy would be helpful.
So bottom line, I gained three pounds in one day. Devastating. But otherwise I feel great.
