Received a check for the 1st, and a debit card for the 2nd. The debit card is annoying. Cant pay rent or most bills with a debit card.
Not ungrateful, just annoyed......
*****My bank, Associated, states they will deposit it into an existing account at no charge......phew!

Is that a possibility?

(36,437 posts)AND you have to sign up for an account to do it. There's no charge for a one-time transfer. I think the website is on the card.
I got direct deposit my first payment & then a debit card my second. The inconsistency shows just how incompetent the Con's administration was. Why change the delivery method when the first worked fine? My husband got a direct deposit on the first & nothing for the second, so we have to claim it on our taxes in order to get it. I know they weren't supposed to, but I still believe his payment was withheld to force us to pay our taxes first. Fuckers.

(58,618 posts)In the end, it was pretty easy to use the card, though I heard people post about getting charged fees for using theirs.
I didn't have that problem, but it just seems like somebody got paid to handle those cards, and it doesn't seem efficient to me. I guess I understand about those without bank access, but it seems kind of petty. I have on-line access to my credit union, and I get SS by direct deposit. Anyway, mainly agreeing with you. Annoying...

(11,686 posts)It was a nightmare for her to deposit it into her checking. We went to one branch and they said we needed to go to another particular branch. The other branch said only one teller was qualified to do that and she wasn't there that day ( WTF? ) There are five branches of her bank here and only one and one teller could do it?

(9,696 posts)Those cards are horrible.
You can't talk to anyone at the debit card company until you activate your card, and I can't activate my card because it doesn't recognize my phone number. The recording says I need to unblock my phone number but my phone number isn't blocked.
I called the IRS and they said to "keep trying" to contact the debit card company which offers no way to contact them until your card is validated (no phone, text or email option on the website). So I have to put it on my taxes and wait for however long it takes the IRS to issue a refund.
And what's up with asking for 6 digits of the SS# to activate the card? Usually it's 4. So now a sketchy fee hungry third party vendor has your name, address and 6 digits of your social security number. Great.

(7,349 posts)I would feel more secure with direct deposit and since they have all my info from SS I dont understand the hows, whats or whys of the debit card.
Hope yours gets figured out!

(9,054 posts)Just go to an atm for the bank that issued the card so you don't get any fees. Withdraw the cash and deposit.
You can transfer it, but that may take a day or two. If you want the money right away, just do that.
My buddy had to do it that way. He was nonplussed. I didn't even realize they were doing the debit thing until he told me.

(9,054 posts)That's . . . very random.
I know unemployment in California uses Bank of America, so it's pretty easy for people as they're friggin everywhere.
That choice just seems bizarre.
