Co-worker told me they aren't getting the vaccine

We have a vaccine event this week. As idle chatter I asked a co-worker if they’d already got one. No. Are you getting one here? No.

I didn’t ask why. He’s a person of faith as he puts it.

38. It doesn't work that way - vaccinated people still need to wear a mask

the vaccine does not keep you from getting Covid - it's to keep you from having a severe illness if you get Covid.

17 Brenham nursing home residents contract COVID-19 after getting shots

BRENHAM, Texas – Seventeen residents of a Brenham nursing home contracted coronavirus after being either partially or fully vaccinated against the virus with an inoculation created to prevent people from developing a severe illness.

Officials at Focused Care at Brenham said Tuesday that nine of the 17 residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 were fully vaccinated, while the remaining eight had received only the first of the two doses.

41. First - I said nothng about vaccinated people not wearing masks.

I said there should be permanent mask-wearing for people refusng vaccination.

At some point (whether that is sooner - or later after booster shots that address variants) we will not be wearing masks all the time. My point is that EVEN at that point, the employer should require those who refuse to be vaccinated to wear masks. That is the meanng of permanent.

Second, a growing body of evidence suggests that the vaccination actually DOES prevent infection. To move the vaccines to market more quickly, what was initially tested was merely symptomatic disease and death. BUT the purpose was always to prevent diseaase. No one designs a vaccine with the hope that it merely prevents severe disease - because merely preventing severe disease ONLY protects the recipient (but allows the disease to spread). The goal is ALWAYS to prevent infection - which is what allows us to reach the end goal of herd immunity. Once vaccines were developed that could prevent severe disease or death is a good first step - BUT - it is not the goal.

Now that vaccines have been administered to more people, there have been two or three studies (one n the UK, one in the US, and maybe one Israel) that have specificlly tested for effectiveness in preventing infection, not merely preventing severe disease. So far each of the published studies has established that the mRNA vaccines prevent disease, not just severe illness.

19. It's likely one or more of the following:

1. It's made with aborted fetuses, or contains aborted fetuses, or was tested on aborted fetuses.

2. It's the Mark of the Beast of the Revelation, or
2a. The vaccine isn't the Mark, but it's conditioning people to receive the Mark in the future.

3. It will cause sterility to reduce the population.

4. After X amount of time, everyone who gets the vaccine will die, again to reduce the population.

5. It will alter their DNA so God will no longer recognize them as his children.

6. They don't need a vaccine because God will protect them from the virus.

7. If it's God's will that they catch the virus, so be it (but count on it, if they have trouble breathing, they'll call 911).

I'm sure there are more.

11. Not worth discussing with them, of course

But was this person vaccinated as a child? Were his parents people of faith, or were they heathen?

How about this: Has this person vaccinated his own children?

Were the 563,000 people who died all people of no faith. And if some of them were people of faith, why did their faith fail them in the absence of a vaccine?

And how will his family feel when he is a person of death?

God's will? God's plan? Okey-dokey.

12. Virus doen't care about his faith.

CDC said today vaccinated people carry no virus.

When private employers insist for liability (and their insurers will insist) their employees be vaccinated, this faith based bullshit should end.

These same people insist employers should be able to require pre employment drug screening, right? Seems if you come up positive for COVID, that'd be reason not to hire you.

Private sector is driving demand for vaccine to return to normal. If he wants to fully participate and not be a self made pariah, he'll change. Or, he'll isolate himself with the other virus spreaders.

RIsky game of chance, I'd say...

We all have a choice, inject the vaccine or inject covid. Because covid will find everyone without the vaccine. So I say I am afraid to inject covid into my body because I worry that three years from now it will hurt my heart or something. Most I meet who don’t vaccinate say they are afraid of unknown problems. But they forget that covid has as least as many possible unknown problems. I ask do you really want to inject covid into your body? Because that is exactly what you are doing.

35. If he had Covid, he probably has natural antibodies

Many think, people who have natural antibodies should let people without them get the shots first. Also, there is no research on which antibodies work best. He could be better protected than you for all we know. There is so much we don't know about natural antibodies vs vaccination. Plus, everyone is so unique and their immune system is so unique. Two people the same age can get the same shot and one can make lots of antibodies, and the other barely make any.

29. you so do NOT want new variants, trust me, the South African and the Brasilian variants

reduce vaccine efficacy, sometimes to a large degree, depending on what vaccine and what variant you are talking about. And there are new variants popping up all the time. Variant are running wild here in Europe (plus many nations have cocked up vaccine distribution). We are in the ditch overall atm.

example:

AstraZeneca Vaccine Fails To Protect Against The South African Variant, Says Study

https://www.forbes.com/sites/williamhaseltine/2021/03/17/astrazeneca-vaccine-fails-to-protect-against-the-south-african-variant/?sh=7539a7be6526

Two doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine were found to have only a 10.4% efficacy against mild-to-moderate infections caused by the B.1.351 South Africa variant, according to a phase 1b-2 clinical trial published on Tuesday in the New England Journal of Medicine. This is a cause for grave concern as the South African variants share similar mutations to the other variants leaving those vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine potentially exposed to multiple variants. This new finding should force a rapid acceleration of second-generation vaccines and encourage further research into the possibility of a pancoronavirus vaccine.

The trial evaluated the safety and the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine in HIV-negative adults aged between 18 to 64 years old with a median age of 30 years old. The trial was conducted between June 24 and November 9, 2020 in South Africa using a multisite, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled approach. Out of the trial’s 750 vaccine recipients, 19 (2.5%) developed mild to moderate COVID-19 more than 14 days after the second dose, compared with 23 of 717 placebo recipients (3.2%). Of the 42 total cases of Covid-19, 39 (93%) were caused by the B.1.351 South Africa variant. These results demonstrated that the AstraZeneca vaccine was only 10.4% effective against the B.1.351 South Africa variant. It is important to note that there were still no cases of hospitalization for severe Covid-19 or deaths observed in the study. Yet the authors did caution that the relatively young median age of participants (30 years) likely influenced the lack of severe Covid-19 cases.

The South African B.1.351 shares similar mutations with several other variants. Mutations to positions 417 (K417N), 484 (E484K), and 501 (N501Y) are all located in the receptor-binding domain. This structure is the part of the spike protein that attaches to the ACE2 receptor of the human cell. The K417N and E484K mutations have been seen in the Brazilian and Japanese variants, and N501Y has additionally been seen in the UK variant.

External to the spike protein, there are a set of three deletions in non-structural protein six which also appear in the Brazilian, Japanese, UK, Nigerian, and New York variants. NSP6 is a structural transmembrane protein and these deletions additionally may assist in neutralization escape. NSP2 also carries a common mutation: T85I. This mutation appears in the California variant, the New York variant, and a number of other US variants. While NSP2 has no known function, the pervasiveness of the mutation is notable at the very least. In NSP12, mutation P323L is pervasive in nearly every variant. This protein is the polymerase, which controls viral replication. While it may not aid immune-escape, this mutation certainly aids increased transmissibility of the South African variant and others.

I'll bet he's praying for a divine miracle to end the COVID-19 pandemic.

I wonder what he'd say if I told him the COVID vaccine is the miracle he's been praying for. And what did he think was going to happen? The clouds were going to part, a Heavenly choir was going to sing, and God would stretch out His hand and heal everyone with the divine touch?

Yeah, miracles don't happen like that...
